Strange Problem....

Bit of a strange one that has me a bit stumped.

As you can see in the screenshot I'm getting a weird black border round all the navigation and tab icons in firefox as well as all the icons on webpages. It's also doing it to the system tray icons and the desktop ones as well. It comes and goes, one minute its normal, then it goes all strange then a few mins later as you move the mouse over them one by one they return to normal. I first noticed the problem after upgrading from 2 to 4gb of RAM earlier this year. However I have run memtest and can't find any problems with it.

Anyone got any suggestions? Could it be the graphics card? Spec in sig, though I run my GFX card at stock speeds 99.9% of the time.

Funnily enough have a similar issue at the moment although to a lesser degree. I beleive it's down to corruption of either the registry entries in question or maybe some files. Some of the errors were fixed by doing a system restore hence the thinking behind the registry corruption. However I still have 2 icons doing it. I 'think' and uninstall of those progs then a registry clean and reinstall will fix it which I am going to be trying soon.
 
Don't think its down to firefox as I have installed updates and even the newer version since it started doing it. It also does it to systray icons as you can see in the screenshot. I might go for a system restore as its been a while since I installed windows and there is a lot of clutter on. I'm still slightly concerned that there may be a fault with something somewhere, though I doubt I will figure it out!

If anyone has any other suggestions I would be greatful.

Looks to me more like a software issue. For an easy fix (without the hassle of trying to determine exactly what is wrong) I'd reinstall your OS. Gl :)
 
Hehe, yea I know it can seem like that. But I've spent so long hunting for small problems before now, only to realise that actually I could have formatted and reinstalled my OS and apps within a couple of hours :)
 
I know what you mean although if it were a problem like that I'd prob just live with it or install opera xD.
 
images are missing from your themes folder in firefox. you've tried reinstalling firefox right?

try installing 3.0. Try running a new theme. Try cleaning system with a tool like crap cleaner.

Cheers for all the suggestions. I have just rebuilt the computer, upgraded the graphics card and done a fresh install of windows. Still getting exactly the same problem with Firefox and Thunderbird.

Will try installing a different theme first, then I might give Opera a try?

Ok if you've reinstalled windows and there is still a problem there might be a problem with your graphics card...
 
Oh ok that is a really weird problem if it's still happening. Monitor problem perhaps? Seems unlikely but something to try.
 
I have just replaced the monitor too, so its not that. Its a head scratcher alright....

Just tried a different theme with Firefox and its still the same.
