Strange Problem

Hi guys, last week I sold my old rig (i7 2700k, 16gb ram, gtx 680) and in the year I had the system I didn't have a single problem with it. Cut forward to today and I get a phone call from the guy who brought it saying there is a "strange problem" and apparently he hasn't caused it...

As you can see in the pic it gets to the BIOS splash screen and then the dodgy colours and artefacts appear above it and that's as far as the boot up goes! Any idea what the hell he has done? He kept mentioning that he was just getting into overclocking when he picked it up from me so could this be a failed overclock?

Cheers.

clear the cmos by removing the motherboard battery for 30 minutes and put back in and try

remember clearing the cmos will reset any bios/oc settings

Looks like either he has oveclocked the GPU to far or the memory is failing (GPU memory)

Ask if the GPU is overclocked or at stock.

It should be at stock still as I didn't overclock it and he won't tell me if he has anyways. Cheers for the advice, will let you know if the cmos works.

just to confirm have you tryed entering bios to see if it have gone to default or are you not able to get that far, if you've got onboard graphics remove the graphics card see what happens , if that fails try ram sticks 1 by one, sound like he oc'd and fried one of them

My thoughts as well. I would suggest trying another graphics card as he may have blown this one.

Seem to be bashing my head against a brick wall! The problem is he's only 15 and swears to me he hasn't done anything even though I know he has as that rig has been the most reliable I've ever had and in the year and a bit I had it I never had a single problem. He won't remove the graphics card as he says he's never done it before and as far as I know there is no on board graphics. Pretty cheesed off as the last thing I want or need is my ebay score being messed up and an angry daddy turning up on my door step claiming I've sold dodgy goods to his son. Going off topic a bit, but please tell me they don't have a leg to stand on as I'll be a few hundred quid out of pocket and dumped with a screwed pc!

Thanks.

Hasn't got a leg too stand up mate.

Private sale, no comebacks.

EDIT

Just saw it was an ebay auction, they will probably just do a paypal dispute and get their money back!

are they local .... if so offer to take a look at it.

did they collect and see it working?

only other thing that i can think of is something come loose in transit ? if he really didnt mess with it.

Buyer beware. But I say that only as a last resort. Im sure he has fiddled...or something had become loose.

Wonder if he has tried to flash the vga bios...

Well they came down from London so a good 2 and a half hours away and paid cash if that helps?!

if they never payed by paypal you will be fine if a case is opened you explain you shown it them working and they were happy to take it,

me personally would go on ebay and there is a live chat explain to them your problem see what they say

I would just tell him to take it to his local PC repair shop and let them sort it out.
It`s no longer your problem. Bought as seen, so he has no claim.
You have been decent enough to try and help him, but if he is`nt being truthful, there is`nt much else you can do.
