Strange puncture

Discovered a strange puncture in my tyre this morning - no debris in the hole, hole looks small, but puncture is incredibly fast - you can hear the air whistling out of it.

I managed to get the tire inflated and limp the bike the 15 miles home, but it was totally flat again a couple of hours later when I went to go to work.

Possible faulty tyre? *1 It just seems really weird that there's nothing in the hole.

*1 Only had the tyre on the bike for 2-3 weeks

Just the tyre puncture lottery by the sounds of it. Doubt it would be a faulty tyre, there was nothing in the hole of my puncture, and that was pretty a fast puncture as well.

the problem is the fact that there is nothing in the hole! get it plugged if you can.

Yeah, going to ask the shop about a plug rather than a new tyre. Thing is I've got an MOT coming up soon and I don't know if a plug will be okay.

On a related topic, how often do other people get punctures? I always feel like I'm getting more than my fair share of them.

My mate seems to have 2 a year. I keep telling him not to drive past the nail factory but does he listen?

I never used to get them on the small bikes where tyres were cheap. Now that it's £100+ a pop, it feels like there's around 2 a year.

I feel your pain, my tyre was only a few months old when i had quite possibly the most random puncture ever.

I was on an RAF camp at the time, still its not the kind of thing that is usually lying around. It did well to get lodged in like that!

I got 6 in two weeks on the rear, I managed to get it down too 10 minutes roadside repair then nothing for the last year

got 2 on the same tyre on my 125, plugged both, job done.

Got it patched, though warned to take it easy. Will go for new tyre on the upcoming service as I have a trip to France planned for September.

A plug is fine and no reason to change the tyre

I've had the rear tyre on a Fazer 1000 plugged, it was absolutely fine - my commute on that bike was a pretty much dead straight, high speed A road run and I rode just like normal on it. If a reputable tyre place are happy to plug it, then it'll be fine
