Hi, first time post in the general discusion forum :p

I was blinded when i was 3 years old in my left eye, ever since, i have worn a kind of shell that goes over my left eye to make it look "normal" when i was younger this didnt really bother me, but as i have grown older i have become more and more self concious about it, and it really effects how i interact with people, for instance i dare not look at people head on if i dont know them for fear they will notice it and think i am "strange" i do get the ocational comment from people that walk by like " did you see his eyes?" etc, which doesnt really help matters.

my question is, does any one else have a false eye or a shell that covers there eye? or does any one know any one else that has one? and how do you feel about it, and do you think i am over-reacting being so self concious about it?

I know a guy who has a glass eye, after a while I didn't notice it, he was just Tim. Then he dropped it in my pint while I was having a wee. :(

People will always point and stare at things they find different, it's human nature. Hold your head up high and try to not let it bother you.

That sucks mate, sorry to hear it.

Shouldnt let it effect you though, most people are just curious so a simple explination should stop any comments.

Ive got a friend with 2 pupils in each eye, kinda look like filled in 8's he has to wear special lenses, quite strange - but cool - he used to be very self conscious aswell, but he discovered more people where just curious then actually put off or wanting to make fun.

What does this shell actually do? and is tehre anything else that can be done instead?

i guess my problem is, i have never known/seen any1 else with a false eye, only the ocational lazy eye, so i dont really know how most people react to it, and wether they think i am strange because of it.

my left eye is smaller then my right eye, and looks a bit to the left, the shell opens the eyelids up, and makes it look as normal as can be, it doesnt have full movement eigher, for instance if i look up or down, left or right, the eyes wont look in the right direction properly, the only alternative is to have the eye removed completely, and have a propper glass eye, but i feel i would be better off sticking with my real eye.

Basically if they do think that, then they are idiots. I wouldnt think you was strange at all, wouldnt really phase me or anyone i know in the slightest - people who do think like that are not worth the time mate, dont let it bum you out :D

How old are you now? This will have a big impact on how you feel about yourself and what you think others are thinking. The older you get the less you'll care :)

Yup, like these guys above me say as you get older you'll find you have less time for caring about idiots. Keep your head up mate and don't let strangers bother you.

Man, dont worry about it. i am almost half deaf and it dosent bother and it never has. I adapt to any potential problem, e.g When im in a studio etc.

I am not trying to be funny, but would you consider an eye patch like Slick rick?

He was blind in One eye and it dosent let it affect him one bit.

If anyone ever makes a derogatory remark about your eye, use a killer comeback about some part of their anatomy. "What's that with your ears dude? They're just plain weird!" etc, etc.

Dean Sheils, a pro-footballer with Hibs, recently had his eye removed. He's been blind in it since childhood, it was in all the papers up here. The humour in a dressing room is course to say the very least, so you can imagine the rippings this lad would've got, he obviously doesn't let it get to him. The lad is an excellent footballer and will be a full internationalist in a few years.

I don't know if that helps at all but I thought I'd mention it.

The fact that you are self conscious about it draws attention to it.
Be bold be comfortable in who you are and I guarantee that less people will notice or comment or care.
If you let it affect you it makes it more obvious.

Not exactly the worlds easiest advice to put into action I'm afraid but the more you let it bother you the more noticeable it'll be to other people. Don't let it define you, it is just an eye.
