Hi all, I have been trying to oc my amp extreme 1080.

so far i have +80 on code and +400 on mem.

I ried the afterburner auto oc, and again the bench marks were lower compared to standard

but if I run heaven or superposition, I get better results on standard than I do with a oc.

why would this be please?

thanks
ian

Could be that the overclock settings are hitting power and voltage limits, causing clock speeds to be held back. I did extensive clocking on a 1070 and found that the overall best benchmarks came from slightly less than maximum power and voltage limits. Adjusting the voltage curve (ctrl+F) in Afterburner helped. It's worth using AB to monitor clock speeds during the benchmarking.

A good example is this: run Furmark. It absolutely slams the GPU, using as much power as possible, but boost clocks will be a lot lower than you see during normal use. Because the card is banging against its power limits constantly.

You will need to monitor the actual clocks during testing to see what the card is boosting to.

As Luckbenski mentions above, the card could be hitting the default power and voltage limits (or even temp limits as well). Have you increased the power sliders in MSI afterburner?

One of the options in the MSI afterburner overlay is the power limit in % terms.

That's a good point - GPU Boost 3.0 is very temperature reactive so make sure you either keep them low, or test at the same temperature each time. Even down below 40°, clocks will be higher if the card is cooler.

in afterburner, I increased the voltage, power and temp limit to max.

but even if i run the afterburner auto oc, it gives lower results with the sliders above set to max.

Think ill just leave it standard, as its getting me easy 100+ fps on ultra settings , 2560x1440 on pubg
