Hey,

Yesterday my internet suddenly died (Virgin Media cable), so I did the usual power-off routine to no avail. Turns out I can connect directly through my modem, but my router was not establishing a WAN connection. When I go to the interface, the WAN Status is displayed as "Establishing":

I've left it for about half an hour and it does not change to "connected" as it normally does. Is the WAN part of the router dead? I've also had a couple of occurrences none of the LED's on the router light up when it is powered up, so this could indicate a hardware fault as well...?

Cheers,

Su

I was about to, but this morning it started working again?! I left it on all night without anything connected, that's all... strange! May well be a sign that it's on the way out though :(

What replacements would you guys suggest?

Cheers,

Suman

Are you sure its not in warranty still? One year on those iirc (which is unusually low for D-Link but thats life). They're fairly new routers so it cant be that old?

December 2004 they were released apparently.... oooooold :p Just checking my archives, and I ordered June 2006. They only do a 2-year warranty afaik :(

Is this a good excuse to replace it with a needlessly expensive Draytek? Very cool routers but what's with the cables coming out of the front?!

Cheers,

Su

No wais! Oh well, I thought D-Link's fancy 'gamer leet pro' range only came out recently, guess not!

I'll stump up with the usual suggestion of a WRT54G+Tomato+Gigabit Switch if you need that. Its the value choice :p.

Yeah you're right... I wanted a new router, but not until the Wireless-N standard is finalised and some sweet 600Mbps routers become available!

Cheers,

Su
