Hi,

I am installing a fresh install of windows 7 64bit

everything goes fine but then strange things start to happen

avast starts to not run on start up as well as other programs
nvidia graphics driver will not install says failed!

ive reinstalled windows twice now with same results so think its not malware or virus

ive ran memtest 86 and it passes

totally baffled now .. HELP!!

Did you try to install drivers as administrator? I had similar problem but when I did win 8.1 install. I had virus on my other computer that spread to any device on the network. Dont worry try to install as admin first and see if it helps. RIGHT CLICK run as administrator

Must admit, haven't tried run as administrator as the user account is an administrator account so assumed it was running as that already, just waiting for a chkdsk to Finnish incase my drive has corruption

Are you using an SSD or HDD? Could be a failing hard drive but if you've got an SSD I would think thats less likely.

I would recommend installing all hardware drivers before any antivirus or other software. I usually do updates early too.

Perhaps try this over Avast if you use the free version: http://www.360totalsecurity.com/en/
Last time I used avast free was a long time ago but it didn't seem good at all. Personally I would recommend paying the low cost for a kaspersky IS license on ebay to ensure you have quality security, I have used kaspersky for years now after we moved loads of servers onto kaspersky business.

Otherwise there is a utility out there called VMT which can test your video memory, might eliminate another possibility.

EDIT: Sorry just read you are running checkdisk. You could also run the seagate seatools which is more comprehensive: http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/support/downloads/item/seatools-win-master/

ok think ive found the problem .. seems to be running ok (fingers crossed)

booted into safe mode with networking and noticed i had no internet connection
looked in device manager and had a problem with "True Vector Internet Monitor" it was in none plug and play

when i googled it , it was linked to zone alarm for some reason zone alarm (zafwSetupWeb_140_522_000) has an issue with my pc, un-installed it and my network fired up and aslo was able to install display driver and avast also starts with windows now.

strange eh, ill let you know if i still get problems after a bit
