strange startup behaviour

past few days iv been having some probs with my windows machine. On booting up is goes as far as the windows loading screen then a BSOD appears and it restarts. I have to go into safe mode. Upon restarting from safe mode windows seems to load fine! Anyone got an ideas as to why this should happen?

only thing i have added is a new pci firewire card but this appears to be working fine. the problem exists before this anyhow.

its as if there is some problems on a 'cold start' i.e. if the machine has been off overnight it doesnt start up in morning. If I shutdown now and start it again in ten mins it will be fine! very very strange it is
