strange startup behaviour

past few days iv been having some probs with my windows machine. On booting up is goes as far as the windows loading screen then a BSOD appears and it restarts. I have to go into safe mode. Upon restarting from safe mode windows seems to load fine! Anyone got an ideas as to why this should happen?

Normally these things are driver problems, try removing your peripherals (obviously not kb/mouse but including ** pci devices)

have you installed or updated any drivers recently?

only thing i have added is a new pci firewire card but this appears to be working fine. the problem exists before this anyhow.

its as if there is some problems on a 'cold start' i.e. if the machine has been off overnight it doesnt start up in morning. If I shutdown now and start it again in ten mins it will be fine! very very strange it is
