Strange Vcore2 readings

Following on from my CPU thread (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17988780 ), I've noticed in speedfan that my Vcore2 is all over the shop! Goes as low as 1V and can peak at 3V. Quick bit of googling and it seems that Vcore2 is the RAM.

Motherboard problem?

Try a BIOS update - usually increases accuracy of wobbly readings. Could also be the PSU rail getting tired.

Also, some motherboards can overvolt memory slightly.

All this aside, all sensors on IT hardware are nowhere near as accurate as a multi-meter so take your software/ BIOS readings with a pinch of salt.

Ask yourself this:

"Does my system run stable?"

If the answer is yes then use the ' If it ain't broke, don't fix it' rule

I've already updated the BIOS to the latest version so I can't update any further.

As far as running stable... yea as long as I don't put it to 100% load. When I do, the system locks up completely after a few minutes and I have to hold down the power button to turn it off.

Let me guess. ASUS board? Happens on my Striker II Extreme too. I notice it using ASUS's own PC PROBE II, and HWmonitor.

With higher cpu vcore, the intensity of it increases. (I am unsure if this is due to electromigration, had a discussion on another forum regarding this. But it also happens at stock 1.3vcore, but it is interesting how it gets more frequent with higher voltages though.)

I emailed ASUS tech support regarding this, and they basically said the same as Andy. "If your pc should work well, then please do not worry".

My VDIMM (RAM voltage) would sometimes report as 3v. then sometimes 0v. If this were actually the case, you pc wouldn't be running.

If it works, don't worry.

Well, it doesn't work and thats part of the problem

If the Asus boards report it a bit funny then I'm fine with that, but the system isn't working properly and is now unusable as I get screen lock-ups under load.

Screen lock up are usually associated with RAM or motherboard memory controller. Try running memtest, if memtest passes, chances are you need mroe NB volts.

I'm pretty sure that with an AMD chip, the memory controller is built in so there is no motherboard memory controller.

I've ran memtest of the RAM for 1 hour with 2 passes yet the system still has problems. Everything is at stock and there's no option in the BIOS to change the NB settings.
