Strange Windows Explorer Problem

right im a little lost on this one
Whenever i open My Computer/My Documents or even My Network Places the page is empty
In the bottom task bar it says the usual like, 3 items etc and if i go to start and then run i can browse my computer, my documents etc without a problem

I am completely lost as to what has done this and how to resolve it

Any ideas anyone?

try a "rebuild icon cache" using powertoys?
is your default view details, icons, thumbnails?
try switching between those and see if that refreshes
 
i forgot to mention this is on Windows Server 2000 so i dont know if powertoys would work
the default view is large icons but i have changed these already and nothing has happened
