Strategy Games

Medieval 2: Total War sounds like your kind of thing, cross between RTS and CIV type games, with castle attacks like Stronghold (I loved that game). Looks awsome aswell....

Agreed and a good description as well
But I prefer Rome TW as I like the time frame more and there are more mods around.

I also can't let one of these threads go by without saying Age of Mythology is much better than the other 'Age of' games

Sim city 4 + exp pack + 1 gb of mods ;)
Company of heroes.
Civil 4 + warlords exp.
Supcom
Pharaoh (good ol classic :) ) & ceasar 3 (ignore IV, its junk compare to good ol 3)
I still play AOE2 reguarally (+ exp. pack), aoe original + rise of rome exp. is a recommend too )

Tbh. i got bored after just 2 days of playing of anno 1701, haven't launched it since.
Medieval 2 i've played for about a week and then left, I suppose once u played rome total war a lot its not so good anymore, but if you've never tried *** total war series, medieval 2 total war is a definate recommend, although I personally think rome total war is better.
Although people didnt like it mostly, i still play settlers IV, and settlers 2 10th aniverary, both a recommend, stay away from settlers heritage of kings imo.

maybe Perimeter?

Check the demo out, good game but dont think it did very well as it was quite complicated.

Managed to get hold of most of the ones you recommend - just ordered them now.
Ive played all the settlers series (settlers 2 was the best)

Company of heroes doesnt look like my thing from the website

@MNuTz - its looks complicated but ill give it a go thanks

I dislike XP, but I have it and you need it for AoE III. How annoying. Only after buying did I realise it is made by Microsoft! I thought it would just state what graphics card, processor, etc you need.. and that I have more than enough of.

Read the requirements people!

I'd suggest Z, if you can get a PC to run it properly. The very definition of gaming classic, it is definitely 'something new' :)

Sim city (2000 obviously)
Why is it obvious? The original is my favourite, especially if it is the Enhanced version with the rather humorous videos :D

Hearts of Iron 2: Doomsday, a ww2 strategy game. crap graphics, but great gameplay and you should be able to pick it up for under a tenner.

Multiplayer? No competition it's starcraft everytime.

Single Player? I don't play single player "Strategy" games.

Warhammer 40,000 Dawn Of War :)

I'm playing that atm and it's excellent. I find it more interesting/fun than stuff like C&C.
The anthology is only £17.99 incl postage. It seems to have a good online community aswell.

Also starcraft is good, altho I've not played that for years.

i like supreme commander but i was abit unhappy with the lack of building, compared to the the old total anihilation which was my favourite of all time. ;) :p :)

cossacks aswell i love cossacks but the 2nd is a complete waste of time compared to the 1st one with the add ons..i thought so anyway

and dawn of war is one of my favourites aswell

i used to play age of empires allot i havnt even played the newest one!

been playing starquest today - found out my mate had a copy that he didnt want

For me, theres not enough bulding - its more focused on the war units - Some levels have no building at all.

Its ok - but not quite my cup of tea

Battle For Middle Earth 2

Got it today and im loving it :)
The expansion pack (Rise of the Witch King) makes it even better. Create-a-hero is a nice touch though a little unbalancing I have to say. Visually superb as well.

I have rome total war and was thinking about getting Medieval 2. Can you summarize why you think Rome is better? I thought the sieges were supposed to be better in Medieval 2? Looking at getting a new strategy game (not just rts battles like COH and starcraft but actual domination of territories and building up empire etc)

thanks

Basically M2TW is a reskinned RomeTW.
The changes are quite small and for all the improvements you can guarantee that there will be a good number of new bugs introduced also.

A good point that is made HERE is that if you only play vanilla Rome then you will enjoy M2TW if the Rome mods like RTR and EB are your thing then vanilla M2TW will not be up to much.
