A month or so a go, I decided to start that 100 push ups thing, and the 200 sit ups. 1st sessions seemed to work out, but then I spent the rest of the week in agony and gave up having not been able to do the other 2 sessions for the week.

I assume this is because I did no form of warm up at all, and in school this was always an important thing to do. But the 100 sit ups thing doesn't seem to mention any warm up.

So what is a correct set of stretches to do before push ups and sit ups? And is it OK start both "programs" at once, I saw a 200 squats thing too, but I have quite strong legs (cycle a lot), I just have really scrawny arms and where I used to have a mild 6 pack a year or so ago, I now have a wobbly one pack.

Doesn’t seem like a good idea to me just doing push ups?? You are only improving strength there is only so much strength you can gain doing push ups, can’t see it adding size to your arms etc.

I add push ups into my gym routine, for example I bench-press say 80Kg for 10 reps then do 20 push-ups between rest then another 10 reps then 20 push ups between rest etc....

But yes a quick 2 min warmup would be good.

Well I dont do a 'normal' warmup i.e. jog for 10 mins or anything. Depending on what I do I just do a lighter or slower version of it. I.e. Bench press, I'll be on a lower weight for a set, then ramp it up, or running, run slower for about 5 mins.

As for the agony, could be your muscles getting used to the work, you should try again, keep at it. Also make sure you're eating well for your muscles to recover.

In regards to stretching, I'm in the camp of stretching after lifting, not before.

i just do the splits before and after training and a few pushups and stuff warms body up; for pressups i don't really think you need much of a stretch just stretch arms about far back as possible pushing chest out and loosen up if anything.

Yeah I tend to just warm up with the bar itself then crack on with the heavy lifting.

LOL, I have to use that as a sig somewhere.

I've just finished the 2nd session since My OP, arms were still aching, mostly in the front of my shoulders and top of my chest, but managed the required number, just. Sit ups were easier, my belly seemed to take session 1 fine, it's only aching a little bit now.

Number of push ups on Wednesday is looking scary.
