I'm not a huge fan of football, and I'm one of those people who try and avoid most of the world cup because it does receive too much coverage. I am however fairly patriotic, and I like the notion of one being proud of ones home nation. I also understand why many aren't patriotic, and indeed why they don't understand the notion of patriotism.

Taking enjoyment in baiting people because they're patriotic isn't being unpatriotic though. It's callous, unpleasant, cynical and rude. And it tells us more about your character then simply saying you don't like England and you want them to do badly at the world cup ever would.

How is it sad? You mean you don't like football so you ridicule the people that do? That’s sad. I can understand if people don't like the game but there is just no need to turn up on a high horse and judge people because they hold a genuine interest in football and love to support their country.
