After have been playing streetfighter for a good 1 2 year or so, i am really considering a arcade stick,

Not to sure when the new batch is due, Never played on a stick before, Worth going for the hori???, the Madcatz SE looks very interesting and decently priced??

Anyone have anything in mind for which stick to go for.

First time Il be playing on it.

:D:D

Thanks Chaps

Well the SE is back in stock now I believe on some website (not sure which but Kreee just ordered one) anyway it's a great stick but it has been plagued by numerous issues in the first few batches and quite a few sticks were affected.

They have since rectified the issues but I have no idea if the sticks that are back in stock are guaranteed to be from the new batch, I was lucky to get a nice and working SE and I really like it.

The SE got good reviews but again was let down by the manufacturing issues.

That's what irritates me. The controller, when it's working is so damn nice for the money it's insane. It really is the perfect first timer's joystick. It just sucks the damn thing is covered with issues. This really was Mad Catz chance to turn things around reputation wise.

Someone wrote a guide to fixing one of the most common issues from the SE batches; http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=176370

As a side note, plugged it up to my PC and its working like a champ. :) Definitely 2x the controller the EX2 is.

DailyGeek from OcUK also reviewed it; http://seanjudge.wordpress.com/

Consider an SE if it's the only one you can find but also look into the Hori EX2, although I see you play on PS3 and I thought the EX2 was 360 only? idk!

I knew about the SE issues but went for it anyway, I couldn't find a Hori anywhere on 360 or PS3 except on Play-Asia and ebay where they were going for well over the usual price they would cost so I phoned around and found an SE, I was bricking it that it would be faulty but 1 month on and it's still doing well. *touchwood*

What are you looking for in a stick?

Cheap and works = Hori EX2/FS3
Moderately priced, easy to upgrade components = Madcatz SE
Expensive and no further modding = Madcatz TE, Custom stick or HRAP

Personally I've got the Hori EX2, and am buying an SE to upgrade with Sanwa parts as well as building my own as a side project :p

The stock SE is on par with the EX2, it's definitely not worth twice the price if you're not going to upgrade the components.

I think I will be buying just the Sanwa stick as the buttons on the SE are great anyway, I don't think even for a second upgrading them will change my game. The only reason I'd really change them would be for cosmetics I suppose.

Then again buying the Sanwa stick will probably not help me either, but I would like a stick with a clear ball at the top, it looks ace. :)

Thanks Chaps for the replies,
From what ive been reading i think its gota be the Hori EX2 or The Madcatz SE.
If i start getting the hang of a stick, eventually will upgrade to a different 1.

Thanks

Ordered a SE myself, had the TE on pre-order but couldn't justify the cost in the end, tis a shame but I have never gone to the arcades in a serious way so I doubt i'll be able to tell the difference.

I wouldn't worry about it, the Sanwa parts won't make you a better player but they do have a nicer quality feel to them. (used an SF IV cabinet which I assume had Sanwa parts)

Plus you can upgrade to the TE parts whenever you like, so it's a win-win.

Gremlinsolutions.co.uk or Arcadeshop.de

You want the Sanwa jlf 8yt stick and obsf-30 buttons.

I find the Hori's stick far better than the SE one, which is frankly appalling so only get the SE if you're planning on spending the £25-30 to upgrade the components.

No problem, takes about 2 minutes to install them too, dead easy to do :)

Edit: Arcadeshop are great for email comms but you have to call gremlin to get a response from them.

One last question Kreeeee...

I just looked at my order and the Gremlin website again, I know this is a silly question but the price of the buttons (£1.60) is for 1 button isn't it, so I need 6x in total, leaving the black buttons. Also you don't need the JLF-H 5-Pin cable do you? Just reuse the one already in the standard stick? Thanks.

That's what I wanted to hear, cheers. :D

Im trying to work out whether the sticks are out of stock or if there is just a backlog of orders at Gremlin. Either way I won't be expecting a package from them for a week or two. I have seen a few install guides on youtube but is there any written step by step guides anywhere? Google is being useless tonight.
