Hey guys,

Picked this up yesterday as well as Prince Of Persia (both cost me less than £3 in total! and PoP is limited edition metal case hehe, but it's cack :()

Anyway, SF4, thought I would hate it but I have got the bug, want to perfect my skills, but, as you can guess, I am pants, I can barely pull off basic combo's. What is the best way to learn?

I am using Ryu and Ryu only as my mate said once you master his combo's/specials you will have a very good understanding of how the game works and therefore pick up other char's combo's easier.

What mode should I play in? I was using the training but that consisted of perfecting one special at a time without any guidance other than me manually looking into the menu at the combo list. But even that only has specials and nothing else...

Also, once I have got to grips with the basics, what should I do first? Start working on unlocking all the chars? If so, is that in Acrade Mode? Confused.com

Train Smart, not hard.

Don't spend ages trying to do moves, combo's etc through blind repetition, as it's a huge waste of time.

Slowing down the motions and pressing punch/kick later usually solves most special, ultra and combo issues. Go into training and turn inputs on too so you can see what you are doing wrong, then make a conscious effort to correct that mistake rather than repeating the move until you get it right.

Play 'rog: Here's a very old combo video of mine.

Edit:

As Ryu, learn his Bread 'n' Butter combo's:

clp clp chp DP/Tatsu
cmp chp DP/Tatsu
clk clp clk DP/Tatsu
cross up mk clk clp DP (FADC Ultra)
DP FADC Ultra (all Ryu's spam this when they have 2 bars as it's a zero risk, massive reward move and he builds meter FAST!)

Edit 2: Add me to XBL and I'll help you learn.

Edit: whats your tag chap?

Be better if there was a guide of some sorts to help new players for Street Fighter, or even other fighting games in general, to help with technical terms and jargon.

Might be too quick to dive into, but there are the Challenge modes for each character. I mean sure, most of the moves and combos are pretty pointless for most people who would never use them, but at least it gives you an idea and the timing required for each key press, or getting to know a few intended exploits, especially regarding animation frames.

Kreeeee

I have a trapped nerve in my left hand so may not play for very long.

Pretty good site. :)

Combo's are very useful (well simple characters like Ryu's aren't). Rog's last hard combo is very useful indeed!

Sorry to hijack thread but this is 'SF 4 help' also.

Can Margaret, Cav or Artheas come online on PC please! I want to see if I can now connect with them. Margaret, I did what you said enable UDP port 80 and port 3074, I basically followed the instructions here...

As soon as I logged back in and went into champ mode, for the first time in months I saw 3 games all with 4-5 bars. I think it might have worked but I need to check and see if I can connect with you 3.

EDIT:::

Legend Margaret, it works. No need for Artheas to change his modem everytime we play. :D
