Stress test a new build?

Not sure if this the right part of the forum, but didn't think it came under the others.

I am just doing my first gaming build. Was wondering if you should stress test it when (if :D) you get it going? Or only after overclocking?

If so, what tests are recommended?

Thanks

Whats the rig?

Personally I do the OS install at stock speeds. Get the machine setup properly, download intel burntest, prime95, CPU-Z, GPU-Z, MSI afterburner, Realtemp. When im happy with the system, i then head into the BIOS to do the overclocking. If you want to get a score on a benchmark software suite at stock speeds to compare with....fair enough.

Intelburntest is a quicker way of testing stability but not as good as prime95. I start with IBT to find what i think is a good stable OC then double check it finally by running prime95 for a few hours.

If you tell us what you have, we can tell you what speeds you could expect to achieve.

Nice spec, very nice. The tranquillo is a good cooler, ivy does run a lil hotter than sandybridge once you really start pushing them. I've overclocked plenty of 2500Ks to 4.4Ghz easy on the tranquillo heatsink, no reason you shouldn't expect the same speeds from your setup.

Build it up gradually though, don't just "whack it up to 11" ;)

haha thanks, I am in no rush to overclock, especially not balls to the wall. First build so will take it slowly and read up more :D

Unrelated question but save making a new thread, is it okay for the gpu to be sagging a little bit at the end? I am guessing it is to be expected because of it's weight and length, but just want to make sure it ain't causing any damage. It ain't much, but it is dropping a little bit

Rather strange, have you got a photo of it? if you have not done the screw on the back plate up right it could happen but i don't think it should happen if fitted correctly
