Stretching (Ears)

I have to believe all the negativity in this thread is trolling, I just can't fathom how such a decent community is so unbelievably shallow

I'm surprised at the lack of "Gay." responses to be honest. Compared to other threads, this one is quite pleasant.

This thread makes me LOL. All the people saying 'why would anyone wanna do this' 'whats the point?' 'you know your stuck with it for life'

But people don't say the same about tattoos?

I myself have stretched both of my ears, to 0g and I am soon looking to go to 00g (then stopping there).

If you take your time, stretching, letting your lobes heal between, and providing you dont go past 0g or 00g, then you can dilate your lobes back.

So its not as serious as people think. Just dont rush, take your time, and let the flesh heal before stretching again.

Probably because it's a free Country and due to free will people are allowed to adorn their bodies how they want. Just because you don't agree with something doesn't make it wrong!

It also doesn't make it unacceptable to think and subsequently state it looks really crap either.

Thought I'd give my 2 cents as most people who have posted have given you incorrect information. I used to have 10mm lobes and they have since shrunk down to a snug 2.4mm.

If you are not pierced yet, then I highly adivse you getting pierced with a needle not a gun. This will be pierced at 1.6mm usually, sometimes 1.2mm. You can also be pierced and tapered straight away to get to a larger size, or if you're wanting to go to a large size then you could get scalpelled, but this is considered pretty much permanent without surgery.

First off don't go into it lightly, consider this a permanent feature, there is no guarantee that they will shrink back down.

If you get pierced at 1.6mm, then you should wait at least 6 months before you consider stretching at all. The preferred method is either stretching using a taper, or, specifically when you get to larger sizes, taping.

Taping is done by wrapping PTFE tape around a piece of jewellery, slowly increasing the size.

As a rule you should stretch one size every 4 weeks at a minimum, but at least 6 weeks is definitely recommended, also the better you treat your lobes, the more chance of them shrinking down, should you ever want to.

You should first remove your current jewellery. the get a taper for the next size and then put a water based lubricant, I used jojoba oil, onto the taper. Then slowly push the taper through the hole until it is through, then press your new jewellery against the taper into the hole.

You should feel a little bit of resistance when stretching, but should never feel any pain, and definitely no blood. If you feel any pain then you should stop and try again at a later date.

Size increments are as follows: 1.2mm, 1.6mm, 2mm, 2.4mm, 3.2mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 7mm, 8mm, 9mm, 10mm.

Can I also make another suggestion if you think this may not be a permanent thing.

When you get about half way to your goal (10mm), stop and then let it heal/shrink back down to the previous size. If it does this quickly and cleanly, it's likely your 10mm can heal up properly or to a point that isn't noticeable if you do end up taking them out.

Attention seeking, rage against society and I not NORM47

I am thinking of getting them done because...

I like the way they look, same reason I buy the shoes, jeans or shirts that I buy. Same reason I spent a bit extra on nice glasses. Not to seek attention or to rebel but because I like them. Do people actually find it that hard to understand?

You should learn English, I said 'I'm sure' and i am sure. Take the 'I'm sure' off and you have a statement of fact leave the 'I'm sure' and you have a statment of opinion.

I hate it when people are as petty as i'm about to be, but this place is full of it, so i might as well. I do apologise though, as little as that will mean.

Sure
free from doubt as to the reliability, character, action, etc., of something: to be sure of one's data
assured or certain beyond question: a sure victory
unfailing; never disappointing expectations: a sure cure.
admitting of no doubt or question: sure proof.

Synonyms of Sure
hard, incontrovertible, indisputable, indubitable, irrefutable, positive, undeniable, unquestionable, certain, inescapable, inevitable, unavoidable

Yes, because you can take an out of fashion shirt off and leave it in your cupboard with considerable ease.

a lot of people thik its motivated by people thinking its cool, and in reality right now a majority of the people stretching are doing it to be cool rather than reasons with a bit more longevity.

Same reason as me :)

I didnt do them because 'I will look a rebel' I did it because I like it.

The huge majority will heal pretty well on their own, some larger ones might need to be stitched but it's minor.

And I didn't say I buy them because they're in fashion, I said because I like them. There is a huge difference, I still like things long after they are 'out of fashion' and still wear them.

most peircings once healed can also be taken out and left out for a period of time, for example I used to take my lip peircings out for work

argument nullified :P

We are not talking about a 'mere' piercing, but a visible hole.

But I will hastily add I find most piercings ghastly except ear piercings.

Thats great, but everyones tastes do change. Its quite a brave thing to do... in optimistic words.

Out of interest, do you think this way about tattoos?
That they are risky because one day you may not like them? I would say yes, but personally I find tattoos slightly more tasteful, for no other reason than preference.
