Striker wont overclock

I would also do the Pencil Vdrop/Vdroop, your Volts you set in Bios will be exactly the same in Windows and not droop on load.

Also seems to affect other voltages.

That is a valid point Helm the guys over on XS stated the volt mod cured a great deal vdroop issues related to the striker

not sure about doing the pencil mod. id rather push this thing to somewhere between 3ghz - 3.4ghz and be able to use all the ram i have (ie all 8gb). with ones of the previous attempts, it ran fine at 3.15ghz (almost!) id rather iron that out i think and get that stable. operating system worked fine as did various benchmarks but prime failed.

Some had to do Mod to get stable as volts are all over the place, least that way you set 1.5v in bios, it is 1.5v and once on load it stays 1.5v, now like 1.42v as the Striker has massive Droop.

You aint doing a volt mod as you have enough volts to fry any part in the bios anyhow.

ive just realised something. when i was overclocking it the other day, it falsely reported the speed of my processor twice - once at 2.13ghz and again and 2.45ghz, which really didnt add up, id clocked it up over 3ghz.

this struck me as odd but i just noticed that those speeds are identical to some versions of Q6600 chip which makes me think the Q6600 is actually a crippled Q6700 - anyone else had this happen?

ive been noticing some strange things today. Ive been getting various errors. Some programs havent been closing down properly and vista has failed several times to shut down correctly.

Steam fails, and fails to launch HL2/Counterstrike. Then it started failing to post erracticly. Switching it off and turning on again, made it work but inconsitently.

I figure one of my ram sticks is flaky, so i removed one at a time and i think i know which stick causes errors. I guess ill have to RMA it back to corsair. Im hoping its the RAM and not the slot it sits in. i dont want to have to RMA the mobo, especially since i stuck the darn back plate for the Tuniq Tower to it!

Its weird that its NOT a stick i used for overclocking, its one of the two i removed while i did all that.

Also the LCD poster panel on the back has begun flashing for some reaosn. IS this a fault? i cant find anything on it in the mobo manual.

it may be of benefit to test all of the modules as they came as 2x2 Kits. If one module fails then return both modules. It would be a good idea to memtest all of the modules.

As to the flashing LCD poster is it posting an error message at all?

http://www.memtest.org/download/1.70/memtest86+-1.70.iso.zip

Extract the files and Burn the iso to a cd

In bios change CD to first boot device and it will automatically run memtest for you.

Im ressurecting this thread. im going to try and overclock again, now its had a good run in and the Arctic Silver **** have cured. ill post again when i have some numbers.
