2x SB-900's that cost £320 each I never use them cause if the wind picks up and blows there stand which is very likely as it has a umbrella or soft box attached. SB-28's are nearly just as good and you don't worry about breaking them. Also you can always sell a SB-28 for what you paid for it if not more.

Then why even own them? Would you buy a sports car but leave it on the drive in case someone hit it?

If you are spending that sort of money on kit you should really have insurance anyway so if it does break you can claim it back.

My D700, 24-70mm 2.8, 70-200 2.8 and 1 of the 2 flashes go every where with me. Fully insured and if its gets broken then it gets broken.

@Mp4

You really don't need to go out and buy 3 newish canon flashes as i have posted before, you can get Nikon SB-28's or SB-26 or SB-24 for around £65-£80 and there perfect full manual control and built to last. I have 5 of them and 2x SB-900's that cost £320 each I never use them cause if the wind picks up and blows there stand which is very likely as it has a umbrella or soft box attached. SB-28 would be pointless as i wouldn't be able to use TTL and would use them as slave units. So manual all the way. So i might as well get a whole younguo setup as they would be the same price as SB-28s.

Trying to get a half decent set-up so i can do portraits/family shoots on the go

I don't need to, as mention SB-28's do pretty much the same job. I bought one for when i need it attached to the camera and someone bought me one plus they get used in studio environments.

I suppose if you want to just use TTL.

I have no idea if i want to use TTL as ive the YN460 is the only flash ive owned & this is fully manual and no ttl or zoom

Well you can always use wireless triggers aswell as TTL on the canon flashes you mentioned. If you plan on using TTL then your better of with the canon flashes, personaly I don't touch TTL as its limited so I would have just got the cheaper used Nikon speed lights and used the money you save on triggers, triggers are less then £30. Also going back to one of your earlier posts YNs maybe the same price new as a used Nikon sb28 but I know which one will break first.
