Hi peeps.

Sorry if this isn't the correct area for this query.

I've got a fairly new PC and I want to take an image of the HDD so if anything goes wrong... A friend gave me a copy of Symantec Ghost to use. When I try to use it, it gives me an option of choosing No Compression, Fast or High. I've tried the latter two, and when it starts off, it gives an estimated time of around 2 hours, but the copying speed gets slower and slower. After just 5 minutes, the estimate time goes up to around 6 hours. I left it on for 5 hours the other day, and it only got to 13% complete. I have a 1Tb HDD, but it's practically empty as the PC is new.

Can anyone advise me on what I may be doing wrong, or is there a better app out there? Perhaps one which is more up to date? This one does seem rather old...

Many thanks in advance! :)

Perhaps try Acronis True Image - there's a free 15 day trial download avail here.

I used it a while ago to clone from an old slow HDD to a new fast one, and have since bought the licensed version as it was so easy to use, and I now use it to take regular images of my boot array in case of failure.

Acronis True Image is a good program but version 10 at the moment has a few bugs...? Although if you're using Windows Vista Ulatimate then why not take advsantage of the back-up within Vista as I use this all the time and to be honest I find it great for what I need. If there is a problem then just insert the Windows CD and then enter your country and then select repair... you then have a list of options, complete restore of your system will restore the entire system back to the state it weas before everything when TU.

Just a thought... If it's a 15 day trial, does that mean if I take an image now, I won't be able to use the image 15 days + later from now?
