stubbern file

I've got an mp3 file on my desktop and it wont let me delete it. When I try to, the explorer.exe will freeze and go to 100% cpu usage and it will also do this when I right click the file and click properties. I've tried booting in safe mode and it does the same thing. I have to keep restarting windows every time I try to delete the file.

You could boot with a live linux cd and remove it by using that

Malware bytes have a program called file assassin that will do the trick.

Install LockHunter - free - it's what I use.

Free Commander often does the job too

Try pressing Shift + Delete - this permanently deletes a file, bypassing the recycle bin. Failing that, I'd use Unlocker as I've had good results with it in the past.

Along with all the other suggestions, Could you not try ending explorer.exe and deleting it using CMD?

Thanks guys but for some reason it let me cut and paste the file into recycle bin where I was able to delete it.

Shift + delete was what I was doing swinnie, it just caused problems with explorer.exe.
