Stuck in a dilemma for a new lenses

Yes this is all stuff I am now looking into.

I know it's an insane amount of money, but, I really fancied treating myself, and I will get more use/satisfaction out of it than say a watch or other item of big value.

I got it interest free as well (less a 20% deposit) so it lessons the hurt a little. I am otherwise debt free, even my car insurance is paid in a oner. I may consider getting the 17-55 IS though in a few weeks.

I love my 70-200, it would be the last lens I ever sold. You don't need a ND filter, no one is forcing you to take motorsport pictures at 2.8 and if you got the cheaper option you wouldn't have anyway. The 1.4 TC I have works very well too on it :)

Mines on a 50D and I find the balance lovely, you won't need a monopod. I'm not huge and have no issues hand holding it for hours. It really isn't an issue.

If you had've bought the 70-200 f4 you would have always have thought "what if" and the 2.8 is far more versatile. Buy cheap buy twice.

Enjoy the lens :)

I am very excited now. Hoping to pick it up from the shop on Friday as it is only 20 minutes from my house, rather than faffing around with postage etc.

I bought my 70-200L IS II shortly after starting out in photography, and mainly for shooting concerts. Since then I've done very few gigs as I started dabbling in street and portrait photography, and the II is great for that.

I did try some of the competing 70-200s, and the F4 in particular was an absolutely epic lens, but the ability to shoot at f2.8 without worrying about image sharpness is a winner.

It was a lot of money, but it's attached to my 50D more often than any other lens, and that's a decent sign of it's usefulness. Besides which it's a lovely lens to use, hold and feel, even before you get into its optical performance. I don't mind a heavy rig though.

Currently considering the Sigma 18-35 f1.8!

Enjoy it!

So yeah, I bought the 17-55 f2.8 IS the other night.

The 18-85 will now be pretty much redundant. With it being the kit lens for my 60D, should I keep it or sell it? I'd much rather sell it and use the cash on a grip/filters/cards etc but would I lose resale value of the body come sale time?

Sell it, it will have no effect on the value of the body, often a body and lens is easier to sell but also results in a lower overall price. Most buyers wll be more interested in overall condition and will understand why you sold on the kit lens.

Did London Camera Exchange give you the interest free finance?

No, I bought the 70-200 on IFC from Clifton Cameras, and I bought the 17-55 f2.8 from them with debit card. I chose them as the prices are competitive, they are local to me and guaranteed UK stock.
