Spent a long weekend in Hamburg and was due fly back to London Gatwick tonight, but just checked the Easyjet website to be told the flight has been cancelled due to the snow :(

We can rebook onto the next flight tomorrow, but does anyone know where we stand with regards to accomodation ? Do the rules say the airline should put you up ? Done a search but the amount of information is overwhelming...

Thanks :(

Why would the airline put you up? I think, but correct me if I'm wrong, that they won't be responsible as they didn't make it snow??

Budget airline = usually entitled to sweet FA.

Rightly so really. How much did you pay for your flights? Probably less than the price of a long train ride in England right? And would the train people put you up in a hotel for the night because of delays?

2. If your flight is cancelled as a result of extraordinary circumstances

If your flight is cancelled as a result of extraordinary circumstances which could not have been avoided even though we took all reasonable steps , including but not limited to:

Air Traffic Control
Weather
Civil unrest
Terrorist alerts and Security alerts
Strike Action
Unexpected flight safety shortcomings
easyJet will not compensate you further other than providing you with one of the following options (“Re-routing and Reimbursement Options”):

You will be offered:

1. Re-routing to your final destination at the earliest opportunity; or

2. Re-routing to your final destination at later date at your convenience and subject to availability; or

3. A refund of the fare paid for the journey not made. Additionally, where relevant, we will offer a return flight to the first point of departure at the earliest available time.

In addition, you will be offered free of charge two telephone calls, or telex or fax messages or emails.

Where you choose to be re-routed at the earliest opportunity:

1. You will be provided with meals and refreshments (or vouchers) in a reasonable relation to your waiting time; and

2. If an overnight stay is required because the reasonably expected time of departure is at least the day after the time of departure previously announced, easyJet shall offer you hotel accommodation and transport between the airport and the hotel (within reason).

The answer appears to be no.

The answer appears to be no.

read it again

"easyJet will not compensate you further other than providing you with one of the following options (“Re-routing and Reimbursement Options”):
"

ie they won't pay compensation (regs say cancelations must be compensated for with cash upto 600euro unless it's an exceptional circumstance such as severe weather) but will offer re-routing as listed

I don't expect easjyjet to pay for a hotel, nor do I blame them.

I´m just looking to understand what happens, and from reading JBUK´s extract, I read that in the event of cancellation through unexpected circumastances you will be offered re-routing or a refund, if you choose re routing and its the day after etc then.......

"if an overnight stay is required because the reasonably expected time of departure is at least the day after the time of departure previously announced, easyJet shall offer you hotel accommodation and transport between the airport and the hotel (within reason). "

There are EU regulations about what you are entitled to. Most of the people in this thread are wrong. Whether its fair on the Airline or not is irrelevent - thats the law.

From Easyjets own website:

If an overnight stay is required because the reasonably expected time of departure is at least the day after the time of departure previously announced, easyJet shall offer you hotel accommodation and transport between the airport and the hotel (within reason).

I read re-routed as flying to another airport therefore you will be given a hotel. Waiting for the next flight on the same route/airport is no hotel. That's what I make of it anyhow.

Thanks man!

How can you possibly make that of it when it's clearly written on Easyjets website?

1. Re-routing to your final destination at the earliest opportunity; or

2. Re-routing to your final destination at later date at your convenience and subject to availability

As you can see - rerouting to the final destination. IE, if you are moved to another flight.

my mate has just called me from tenerife, flight to birmingham cancelled but he may get to bristol, would the airline have to pay for him onward travel as his car is at brmingham ?

Last year I got stuck in Edinburgh this same weekend due to Luton and Edinburgh airports being closed. As far as I know if the airline cancel your flight they have to arrange for something else. We went with Easyjet and were given accomodation at a hotel including breakfast and also rebooked onto a flight the next day. That flight ended up being canceled as well and we were put on a coach from Edinburgh to Luton via Manchester...

They will put on a coach for the passengers surely?
