Stuck in Mario Galaxy

This has annoyed me enough now, i know i am missing something obvious but i cant do a certain bit in Mario Galaxy. Its in the Dreadnought Galaxy (Revenge of the Topman Tribe mission). Im stuck in the bit with the cannons and pull stars, i can get through it fine but there is a launch star at the end. No matter what i do i cannot reach it! What am i doing wrong?

Guides dont help as they just say go into it, i cant!
 
Err think I know where you mean. Basically you go to pull star next to the one next to the launch star (get me?), and pull on the one next to the launch star. Loose the A button when you get close to it and you should drift past. Shake the remote and you'll lock on to the launch star even if your a few feet away.

Not just me then finding Battlerock Purple coins an arse :) I got 108 stars now and this one is still doing my head in.. i always miss 1 coin and its too late to go back :D
 
The bit with the Thwomp always got me! By the time I'd faffed about the lift was miles away! :D

Figured out I was doing it wrong, eventually. My learning curve's not the best :p
 
I hate purple coins!!! Doing the desert one, but i cant get on the thwomp at the start. I time getting in a tornado just the thwomp is coming down but i cant quite get high enough....

EDIT - Never mind
 
You can't get on it in a tornado I don't think. Need go next to it, back flip (crouch and jump) and then shake the remote in mid-air to get a touch higher :)
