Well I had the morning off work to go into town for a doctors appointment... but recently my keys wouldnt unlock from the usual range...

So I drove into town and struggled to lock the car, but it finally worked. Came back to the car and the keys wouldnt unlock it by button press and wont disable the alarm.

So I used the actual key to get into the car and the alarm is still active so was going off like a stolen car the whole way home...

And here I am now........I managed to lock the car again and the alarm is armed still, so gonna have to drive to the VW garage to go get it sorted. I have taken the key fob apart and the electrics look OK (nothing fused) and also taken the battery out and put it back in...

Anybody in Oxfordshire that sees/hears a car alarm for the next 20mins , please excuse me! :(

My old alarm used to be disabled by turning the ignition on and off rapidly 10 times.
I'd try a new battery first before the Stealership start charging you

I went down with a mate to the VW garage... where they said it would be roughly £60 to put a new battery in, resync and labour.

Of course, I questioned them about purchasing a new battery alone. Which they sent me to the "spare parts" department, which I paid £2 for a battery and a spare.

I then walked to the area infront of the servicing desk and fitted the battery infront of them. To then exclaim "wow that saved me £60!" ... whilst proceeding to my car and drived away. :D

I already knew this might be the case.. read up on the Mk4 forums that they try to charge this amount. so knew exactly what to do to avoid it! :)

Even better when its the keyfob that disables your immobiliser! Halfords sell the batteries at £3.50 a pop but we aint allowed to fit the m for "insurance purposes"......not that anybody listens.

£60 for changing a battery, haha!

I wonder if anybody's actually paid that before?! :D

I would say quite a few... the "average consumer" usually opts for the easy, no hassle option of letting the garage sort it.

"I pity the fools" /end of Mr T impression
