stuck on COD3

i am stuck on the bit where you have to use the binoculars to zero in on the tanks from the bunker. it says click the left control to use them but nothing is happening?
any ideas?

Left click it in and hold it in. Then right trigger to target once the bi-noc-u-lars are up.
If you don't hold it nothing will happen.
