hi. Basically ive applied to the coop for their student account and im wondering if i can apply for another one? If so which accounts should I go for? I was looking at smile but im not sure whether they'd approve me seeing as i have coop to.
Thanks

i think most student accounts will insist that you pay in any loan or grants or wages into that account as a condiction of your free overdraft/deals stuff for free at least thats what happened to me in the past.

Not everyone can get a loan as a student, as long as there is regular money going into the account and regular money is coming out (used as a current account) they don't really mind. Had 2 accounts both with all the bonuses and neither didn't mind.

Every bank I have worked for insists on student loan going through the account to qualify for the features, else you can have as many accounts as you like without any overdraft or qualifying for any incentive

Banks won't typically give you a student account if you already have one. It is possible though, I opened an account with Lloyds and at the same time RBS converted my current account to a student account giving me two.

you could open a mass of accounts and then just close them after a few weeks saying you quit the course or something if they offer free stuff but i am not sure most banks do this now. I actually did this for my free rail card with natwest a few years ago, once I had my rail card i just when in the branch and said I was leaving and would like to close the account. I am sure banks are more aware of it now and try to offer more longer term deals/stuff with the actual account.

Student account with overdraft was one of the hardest things I have ever had to pay back. Be careful if you are thinking of racking up debt and you are like me spend spend

Question: I've just finished uni, my Student account is with Natwest.

how long until Natwest decide to non-studentify my account?

Not quite sure with Natwest, but i'm with HSBC and recently saw a mail you get only once you log in to your account telling me that my account will be converted to a graduate account after my course finish date.

I don't think i ever told natwest my course-finish date...

Well i guess i'll find out soon enough.

smile is part of co-op so they will know lol

also you can only have one account with the benefits as they wont give you an OD until your loan goes in

You can only have 1 student account now. I gone back to uni and I was told by ALL the banks that I tryed you can only have 1 account (and they do check, I tryed to pull a past one). My brother finished his year and he had 2 but they dont let you any more.

You might also get declinded if you have lots of savings, I did with netwest.

As others have said they want your grant/loan paid into account, bar that they dont care if money goes in or out.

They will most likely change it into a graduate account.

Did with my lloyds one and they usually take the overdraft down in £500 chunks untill you back at £0 :)
