Hey,

My girlfriend is looking to open a student account but we are lead to believe that there are some really cool gimmick/incentives to join certain banks.

I was with the Halifax/BoS and I don't remember receiving a gift from them, but I know that other accounts do.

Could anyone shed some light on this? :)

Many Thanks
Andy

That sounds cool, but she wouldn't really have use for it as transport is covered. Cool nonetheless dude and many thanks for your super quick reply :D

It's not just about the gimick. They all have different overdraft limits. RBS is the highest at around £3k I believe. Halifax a close second at £2750. Natwest is only around £2k. They also have different pay back periods after you finish uni before you get charged interest.

Most of the banks will have stopped giving out freebies by now, it's just the first month or so of each year that they do.

And just a warning, if you aren't going to get an account with the bank you are with now you may quite likely be declined.

natwest giv em 2 everyone, 1.25k interest free overdraft in first year, they get annoying ringing/texting you if you're in overdraft for ages and dont credit anything toaccount tho

You ONLY get the free gifts in your FIRST year - if you apply after having already started uni you get nothing!

I would go with Natwest personally becuase you get up to 2k interest freee od in the final year lol
