The assistant editor of a university journal has been sacked for transphobia after he retweeted a comment that “women don’t have penises”.

Angelos Sofocleous, 24, was dismissed from Critique, Durham University’s philosophy journal, after his retweet of an article in The Spectator outraged students on the social media platform.

So glad I graduated before this crap starts to overwhelm higher education.

This lot won't be running the country, the whole political system is becoming a exclusive club for certain schools, both sides leaders can now be traced to one of a number of private schools.

Many of the front benches are coming from more normal backgrounds now, like Sajid Javid. Son of a bus driver who went to a state comprehensive.

He David Davis went from state comprehensive straight into the army as his A-level results weren’t good enough for a university place. God knows where some of the labour lot came from.

When i read the click bait title, i was "wtf?", PC world gone mad again. Then i actually read what he was accused of and the article itself.

The deputy editor was wrong imo, his article was published to get a reaction and by saying "women don’t have penises" is alluding to trans are not women. Whether you agree or not, this type of comment will spark outrage and will have lots of anger and support.

He was wrong (well, right, but wrong to publish the article!)

Paints a scary picture of what the U.K. will be like when this lot are governing the country.

It is a bit scary - there is nothing healthy about the attempts at the moment to warp and distort reality (and police people's thoughts) to try and redefine what people see as normals... unchecked I suspect it will eventually lead to war in some form or other as eventually even those groups will start to conflict within themselves.

Goddammit I just read your name out loud and sounded like a dog growling.

This is a turning point of my stay at OcUK, I will never be able to unhear it

Same here, I graduated in '95 and this sort of **** was contained to one or two loons who sat in a corner of the SU bar and were laughed at or just outright ignored by the majority. We had crustys though, and that was bad enough. Can't imagine what it's like at University these days, having to watch every word you say in case some special little ice crystals get offended.

I received an information form to fill in from a housing association the other day that had a question for sex then a follow up of is the sex you identify as the same as the sex you were born as. Starting to see this stuff in the day to day now :o

The statement “women don’t have penises” should be axiomatic.

Freedom of self expression is one thing.

But a trans woman never was and never will be the same thing as a (biological) woman (and vice versa for trans man / man).

There's a relatively simple way I can know this for sure as a heterosexual cis male......

By making the following statement with as much certainty as I could make any statement....

"I would never knowingly enter into a sexual relationship with a trans woman and it would be particularly ridiculous to suggest that I would knowingly enter into a relationship with a trans woman still in possession of biologically male genitalia"

Trans woman being the term for any biological male who self identifies as being female whether or not they have had any surgery, any hormonal treatment or even adopt stereotypically femine clothing / makeup etc.

Sofocleous’ post received backlash from former chair of LGBT Humanists Christopher Ward, among others, who claimed the post was ‘factually incorrect’ and not ‘worthy of a debate’.

The very essence of a very nasty form of totalitarianism.... Trying to force you to (publically) accept what is self evidently not true

No he didn't, he worked full time as an insurance clerk and and passed selection to serve in 21 SAS part time and on top of that he studied to re-sit his A-Levels at the same time. He then retook his A-Levels and went on to study at Warwick, London Business School and Harvard. So actually pretty hard to knock as far as academic institutions go. And at least he's got a bit of an excuse for the early failure that he the put the effort in to rectify - he was brought up on a council estate and went to a bog standard comprehensive school.

Comrade Corbyn on the other hand has to be one of the biggest jokes/low achievers academically. He was raised by middle class professional parents (Engineer and Maths teacher) in a 7 bedroom house. He went to a private prep school and then a grammar school and yet despite dripping in privilege ended up with just two E's at A-level. No degree obviously.
