Student Finance

The whole situation is ridiculous, this "New" Labour government has stirred up a right mess, there was no course fee before they were elected.

I'm still trying to find some accommodation I can afford. Rent seems to have soared.
 
Are you sure nothing is done through the local councils anymore?
I had to take ID and P45(?) forms to the local council office and they sorted everything out. This was Lancashire Council btw.

Also when I reapplied I just had to check that nothing had changed from the first online application form and click resend pretty much. Still had to take ID down to the council hall thing but other than that it was pretty easy.

The people on the phone are pretty damn unhelpful at the studentfinance hq, though.
 
I seem to have no problems 3 years running..been doing it online at SAAS..but then again if ur not scottish then that doesnt apply !

depends on which council. the one im in has nothing to so with any of it at all anymore. have to do everything through the HQ. horrible place to phone

Well that was just spiteful, because I, along with other members on here, did apply early. And yet they still mess it up.
Because even in England I have to call Glasgow, who email Darlington to chase my application.
Why not allow me to call/email darlington myself? Because its employment for another load of useless people who fail answer the phone for days, when they actually do they put you on hold, and then tell you simply to re-fill in some forms.

It's all to do with the centralisation of it all. Was far more efficient years ago when local authorities dealt with it.

They don't ask for any credit rating based information when you apply so it has no impact what so ever.

They just want to know what your/parents earnings were for the previous financial year. If you're applying for grants that is.

does an overdraft really effect credit rating all that much ?


anyway the SLC dont check credit reports anyway. its not like you could choose not to pay them back anyway because it gets automatically took out of your pay
 
The SLC is not a government run body. It's a private company that administers the loans and support on behalf of the government.
 
as a parent dealing with them i can honestly say they are worst organisation ever , too many problems to list, my eldest daughter went through the lea with no probs ,infact the info needed for this year is on my lea,s system but they cant share !
