Students

Granted some of them have parents that pay their tuition fees so it makes it a little easier for them. However I do know people who have worked non-stop through the holidays to be able to afford/run a car. It can be done, I've seen it with my own eyes.

I bet these were people who, whether they told you or not, qualified for:

£1000 'hardship Grant'
Additional loan due to parental income
100% LEA funded fees.

And had:

Maxed overdraft :p

They dont count :p

The ones who I am thinking of all had the minimum loan from the SLC apart from one who had a slightly larger loan. I know this because I remember discussing it with them.

Granted they may have maxed out their overdrafts in the uni year, but they all seem to get out of the red during the summer. But yes come Easter they were all begging me for money. :p

Next year I will be in my final year at uni with a performance car, a 306 GTI. I dont intend to work. Parents give me £200 a month and I have some savings so will be quite easy.

Why don't you calm down and get a grip? It's hardly crime of the century, what do you expect him to do, throw his parents assistance back in his face?

Nothing wrong with how he has it - cushy, sure, but at least he isnt one of those morons who tries to make it out that he paid for it all himself. He's honest, what more can you ask?

Oh, and star out your swear words. And don't insult people like that.

In my first year of uni, I drove there and back from home, so I had it pretty sweet, I only had to pay for petrol money basically, being a named driver on my mums policy. My second year, I didn't have access to a car, and I would not have been able to afford to run it at. I have worked full time over the summer, so that I can use that money to live off during my uni term time. If I were to run a car on top of that, I wouldn't have access to a parents car, so it would mean my own car, policy etc, and that would cost me far too much, and I'd have to work part time during term, meaning I'd probably lose out on half the social things going on as I'm trying to run a car and go out at the same time.

I start uni in september and i still havn't decided what im going todo with my car. I'm in a house with a driveway, so thats all fine but its just insurance maintenence and fuel costs that really worry me as its an old car that does 25-30mpg lol. After reading this thread it has put me off even more because lots of you get help from your parents and still have todo extra work etc to pay for your car!

I'm not getting any financial support apart from my student loans and was hoping to finish uni with no debt apart from the main loans. I have £1500 saved up at the moment to give me a nice bit of money a week towards food etc.

Which I have, my manager has told me that I can do this with no problems. You see they have someone from another store coming to Loughborough Uni so wants a job at term time. So when they go home for holidays I take their place at Loughborough store.

I was in a similar situation, but be careful and smart, things often change! As i found out!

I get my rent/fees paid by my parents and i still struggle, even with a part time job at uni!!! But im not exactly frugal.

I paid for everything at Uni where I lived 90miles away from home, got the maximum loan each year and worked hard in holidays.

This let me run a Rover 220 turbo for my second and final year, and still could go out acting like a proper student. Its all about looking after your finances.
