Studio Display or Alternatives

Anyone got any thoughts and opinions on the Dell U4025QW? I'm using an LG Ultrafine right now and it's ok, but I'm genuinely tempted by the monitor. I'm thinking of maybe running my existing monitor in portrait, and grabbing that as a main monitor.

I wanted 2x Apple Studio Displays but the Apple tax was too high for my blood, so I went with 2x LG 5k refurbished and they were solid. I recently sold one and now have a 32" Dell QOLED, mainly because The LG was doodoo for gaming and not HDR.

We have these at work, and whilst it looks ok and much better than other monitors out there for apple, it isn't the best. I hate to say I still have not seen a solid replacement for the Studio Display, the brightness is good for working in bright rooms too. I hope the new 6K monitors from others will be priced well.

I love how legible the text is even when you stack 3 rows of windows next to each other with magnet. Text legibility is such a vital part on computers apple for some reason nail it.

I wish I could the gaming power of my PC and all the Mac stuff in one machine :P My 4090+ Oled TV is nice for gaming but man it has colour gradient issues.. apple just handle colour and text so well.

My only real regret with getting a Studio Display is that when I want to use my PC I have to switch the TB cable out from the back of the monitor to an DP > USB-C. It's no great hardship but I do wish it had more than one input.

I don't think I've ever asked this - what can the studio display that others can't?

I think at the time it was really only one of a handful (maybe two) monitors that could do 5k which gives perfect 1440p scaling.

For me the aesthetics are very important and there isn't really anything on the marketing that comes close. Also, having the prehipherals integrated cuts down on a lot of clutter.

It's definitely not for everyone.

I really should look into this more as my ultra fine has dead or stuck pixels, so I'm going to need to replace it soon - and it's one of those things where you balk at the cost of a studio display, and then when really you compare it to the cost of a non apple display it's not a fantastically different price gap.

I will say though, my ultrafine is a 4k monitor and looks fantastic aside from the pixel issue.

The biggest thing for me is the colour being the same as my macbook Pro so editing photos is great, the brightness is perfect and much brighter than some HDR monitors. The scaling of text is so perfect with no fringing or aliasing so I can read for hours. This has completely changed my experience working at my desk for hours. I finish up on this and then go to my pc set up. I am real stickler for monitor quality and returned a LG Oled because it was gash, so for me to get 2 of these is a testament to how well it’s built and performs.
