No thats opportunity cost.

Don't forget, most people who download a song illegally, will then get a taster and purchase the album for more.

They forget that most will try before they buy, just because of some of the albums that come out have utter tripe on it and arent worth buying!

You forget the amount that the music industry makes via other sources, they REALLY aren't doing that badly..

I'm sad to say that before kazaa I used to buy CD's regularly, but in the past 5 years you can count on two hands the amount of CD's i've bought.

I used to buy CDs regularly too - but then I realised that on a ~£10 CD you'd be lucky if you got two decent songs on it, so I'm very choosy what I buy now. Itunes rules though - buy the decent songs for 79p, last time I saw any singles for sale in a record shop they were like £3 each

As already has been said, that is 'opportunity' cost, just because some people download music illegally, does not automatically mean they would have bought that music legally!

Some people if they cannot get it for free, they wont get it, those figures are so manufactured, its unbelievable

Agreed point then,

I still am outraged by the fact they have closed down TAB websites though. I dont care if i spend a few quid on a talented artist...BUT how did they become talented?

In order to learn instruments quickly to provide young talented artists, TABS are the way forward. I play guitar and bass guitar and learnt both through tabs then went on to learn music and learn by ear.

However when i want to play a gig, with music people know (so that they enjoy it!) we have a struggle to find tabs to learn the tunes. I think it is very selfish to keep this from the music community and isn't going to help in the future
