Stuff ASUS : Enough is enough

Agree with op.

No specific support for my 965 on the crosshair 3, poor management of features, little to stand it out from any other 'lesser' priced board, plus the latest bios saga.

In trying to manage thuban and its new power management, they fd up, mine and several other quads simply got stuck at 800 htz on installing the latest bios. No warning whatsoever, just a 'well thubans are funny' from an asus tech.

Solution? Well asus, who sell high power enthusiast boards, seem to think that no one would ever need to roll back a bios- standard provided software just stonewalls you. Total hassle.

Biggest joke; 'Official' kind of amateur website, where they fob you off onto any other server/torrent they can...

Still has the broken bios up. Over a month later.

That is the kind of thing you don't do if you are top notch; if you charge a premium, you should earn it.

Strangely enough only Asus has died multiple times on me too.

First had trouble in the S478 days.

P4P800 deluxe - not even a week old and just wouldn't turn on one day, replacement worked fine for years though

P4V533 DOA - replacement worked fine.

P5B - Brand new, smelled burning IC and then dead, after 2 days of running.
- replacement P5B - Worked about 3 months, then bluescreened one day - dead. Replacement to replacement went on Ebay.

P5K-EPU - Booted but stuck on POST screen, eventually failed to boot, so DOA really. Replacement works fine

P5KC - MASSIVE vdroop and couldn't even run a Q6600 at a mild overclock of 3Ghz, vdrooped so bad it failed prime constantly, even with dampening and 1.4v it dipped to 1.2v (this chip could do 3.6 on 1.35v on a Gigabyte x38 mobo) sold it at stock speed and its still fine, however noted that on that chip, VID was 1.25v and in cpuz under load it dipped to 1.12v @ stock speed, even with dampening on, so it was only really because the chip could tolerate the droop it worked fine, horrible board.

Currently main rig uses a P6T SE, lol maybe i never learn :D

Couldn't agree with you more. Their online support is terrible. The worst attitude I have ever seen on 3 occasions I was just told to go and speak to someone else.

I have a CrossHairII (Nvidia 780a Chipset) with a 1090t CPU.
Yes everything works fine and is stable. But the BIOS is another issue. I change the multiplier up or even down and it has no affect!

Contacted them and was just told it wasn't their fault

But the board is stable so I can not fault them on that

P5Q deluxe - board seems stable at 425fsb with minimal NB of 1.26v and fsb term 2.31. however getting the cpu above and beyond 3.1ghz seems to require more like 1.4xxv:/ my AC7Pro doesnt seem to enjoy the heat provided at 1.4v either unfortunately.

oh ya at 3ghz (425x7) i am using 1.375 v in bios with loadline calib. in place and in windows it shows at actual corev of 1.37 so only losing o.05 bit bad

Just to stir up the pot a bit more...
I just bought another Board off the MM and it came yesterday...
EVGA 680i - nVIDIA SLI Chipset

My god its bloody hot!

Few quirks with this board...

I went to plop in a pair of 8800GTS cards and the bottom PCIE Slot sits so low, that the card wont fit.

Similarly, the Audio header is so low in the board that in order to use it ( purely to se what its like and whether the headphone port on the case works with it ) I had to remove the back feet from the case.

So, in the end, I put in the 7800GTX Cards that I was going to anyway.

Irritatingly, all the components that were in the original Opteron are still there apart from the Mobo, CPU, and RAM and yet the heat coming from this now, is really something quite extra ordinary and I dont think that I have ever had a PC quite this hot ever!

I dont think its normal TBH.

I have now filled up the cases fan positions with some seriously hard blowing Delta 80mils and its helped tons, but its now too loud to be used in any serious capacity, plus the benchmarks that I have done so far has only shown me that its pretty much EXACTY the same speed as the opteron... Somethign totally contradictory to my first ever benchmarks on my first Core2Duo

Anyway, if this board goes pop, then it will be the last nvidia I buy.

I m using a asus as you can see, seems happy at 450FSB..........to bad the mem won't go to 1200Mhz :p

You know, it's hard to compare products from 5 years ago, to products of today as a lot of things have changed in terms of technology and the way these products are developed.

I can't say that everyone is wrong, sometimes good companies make bad products or bad choices for their products and people just don't buy them. On the flip side, ASUS have been a constant innovator in terms of new designs and features for the motherboard market especially - It's not something that's easy to overlook.

I notice a lot of posts in this thread are quite flippant, which makes me question if they're real or just people jumping on bandwagon's to increase their post count...

Sayso, I know you've had some bad experiences and I can completely empathise - I just wish there was something I could do to help.

With regards to the comments on support, a lot is being done behind the scenes right now to improve this, but these things take time - The forum over at vip.asus.com is pretty useful for technical questions (Apologies if this link's disallowed, mods?)

And whilst I'm not technical support in any way, shape, or form - I will help out wherever I can.

I bought P5N32E SLI a couple of years back. Since then.

Had TDRs with every card I put in it
Memory wont work in dual channel
Wont oc a Q6600 B3 revision at all without locking up. No matter what voltage. Seriously.

I'm not a real fanbot for ASUS but I started with a P4S-800 for my old P4. Didn't realise I needed a P4P to actually overclock though!

Then I had a DFI NF4-Sli D which was my first overclocking board.

Got a Crosshair 3 which my cat peed on and then I opted for the cheaper M4A89gtd pro as I can't justify a crosshair 4.

The P4S was still working away after years of use until it got the bin. I think parts are running so hot and are being made by pushing the boundaries that failures are more and more common these days.

Need to RMA a motherboard with Asus, anyone had a good experience with this and can point me int he right direction to get started?

Its 6 months old so could I go back to the retailer?

As far as I am aware, but in the UK, the RETAILER has a legal obligation to provide you with a 12Month warranty, and so yes, you can simply take it back to the shop you got it.

Unless its "B" Grade or sommat other than braaan-spaaankin' noo

I never had problems with ASUS boards apart from an ASUS board having the onboard sound going haywires. Had an ASUS A8N-SLI, ASUS M2V4-SLI, some kind of micro ATX nforce 4 with onboard 6200 graphics (onboard sound got haywires) but apart from that, never had any problems. The first gigagbyte board I got was fried, and got an MSI 790FX to be happy with for almost 2yrs now ;) (Touch WOOD).

I think brands are a matter of luck, some say ASUS are the best which last, some others say that they are crap, some use cheap boards which last for years, and some which use cheap boards which last a month to a year max.

I think it's a matter of manufacture and luck.

Welshdragon, you should go back to your place of purchase. Depending where this is, you should see your board back within the week - This is ultimately down to the retailer though, your retailer will receive a board back from ASUS within 5 days from when they send it to us :)

nfail

i thought it was common knowledge that nforce chipsets were terrible

in fairness i have had more motherboards than i care to remember
the only board i have ever had issues [enough to warrant and RMA] with was a gigabyte p35

had good experiences with all of the current gen asus boards
except for the rampage 3 which asus are fully aware about and working to fix

I think Asus are good, and their RMA process too.

I've had an Asus Xonar DX and Asus 5850 both give up the ghost, and I've had replacements/credits within 3 or 4 working days. (DX was with OcUK, was turned around the same day as they received it, and sent a new one - pleased with that one, the 5850 was with a competitor, which took 4 working days, but to be honest it's much more expensive so I'd imagine they'd run more tests...).

I'm using an M4N82 Deluxe, used an M2N68, and I've got an old A8V still working away somewhere. Never had any issues with any of those, but then I've never had an issue with the Gigabyte 790XTA-UD4, MSI 890GXM-G65 or ASRock P45XE either.

So all good so far. *Touch wood*

i too not long ago had a asus mobo with a nvidia chipset ran fine for the year i had it, mostly on 24/7 but it died on me. my sister in law had a lappy with a nvidia chipset but the onboard gfx gave out, vendor even made a bios update to help keep it cool. i think i will stay away from them in the future asus or otherwise.
