So Im thinkning of getting the 600GB Western Digital WD6000HLHX VelociRaptor drive.

Its £160 and the WD Green 3TB is £139.

I want a fast drive (not SSD) to install games on and large work files and other stuff I need snappier access to.

Is it worth going for it? Would you?

tl;dr?
Basically if you only use the outer 20% of the 3TB drive its probably going to have better access times than 600GB drive. Too lazy to do the maths.

But you'd have to partition it so you never see the rest of the drive in that OS, because if you make the head move to the slower part of the drive you lose the low access times.

buy the 3tb drive and use the first 600gb in a partition, it will beat the raptor anyway as said above

So I've bought the FAEX 1TB drive. May raid it when the prices go down, till then this should do me.

Reason for buying, was thinking bout noise of raptors (2.5" shouldnt be that loud) and performance gain. Undoubtedly there is with the raptor but not worth twice the price of the FAEX 1TB, especially since the price of the 1tb just went from £109 to £84 on a todays special.

Also seen the 3TB WD Green drive for £140 around the price it was before the floods. Does this mean HDD prices are slowly decreasing?
