Stunning Apple Concept Designs

Christ, those people have too much time on their hands! The only idea I like is the foldable OLED display really, most of the other ones are a load of tosh.

Hehe - the tablet concept has an optical drive and a disc hanging out the side of it!

Couple of novel ideas in that collection, though.

Is it just me or is Apple design starting to look a bit insular? there are half a zillion variations on the same 'glass tablet' design and only a couple there that seem to work toward really thinking outside the box. You really do have to be an Apple lover to wear something like the iRing tho...

I like the design of the iCal watch, and the iPod Shuffle armband thing.

All the others look horrendous.

The transparent display is the worst idea in display history, can you imagine trying to edit photos on a display where the wall/next desk/window look like they are alpha blended onto the image.

Designers should have a real person standing behind them with a big rubber mallet who bops them on the head every time they have an idea like this.

Some of the others are great though.

You do realise that's not 'apple design' right... It's just a bunch of out of work graphics students that have nothing better to do..!

No I get that - but have you seen the rest of Apple design? It hasn't evolved much since each lines inception - iPhone, iMac, Powerbook - I get the 'if it ain't broke' but it all feels a bit obvious. Still when you hit a certain design sweet spot then it doesn't often make sense to re-design it.

The Imac hasn't evolved? Are you mad?

I'd say the Mac Pro is the worst offender, that you haven't named.

Personally, I like "the cheese grater" design, but it's much longer in the tooth than anything else.

The iMac being the design that has changed drastically compared to first inception.

Can't see what else they can do TBH.

Who cares if its old. Compared to ever PC out there its like its out of Star Trek.

Mac Pro looks ***.

If you go back to the G4 (2004) - for sure but since the G5 (2005) - they all look the same. I'm not saying it's a bad design - I think it's a stunning machine and the OS is just lush - but the vast and ever surprising evolution of the design seems to have stopped or at least slowed significantly. It's been minor cosmetic improvements with adding some black here and there and changing the interface devices, mouse/keyboard etc.

It think it's cool that the PMG5/Mac Pro case has remained the same. It's nice to see a great design have longevity in an industry where so many things get overhauled all the time for the sake of it.

The Mac Pro design is great. It's been around a long time but it simply doesn't need changing.

Some of those designs are nice and some are horrific. How the hell is this meant to work?

Flip the lid over for the trackpad, then flip it back for typing, then flip it back for the trackpad. You'd need AppleCare for the hinge alone. Not to mention contents insurance for when you throw it against the wall in anger.
