Of course but they treat it differently in terms of valuing it.you have to write down what the gifts are, and if you don't list what is in there, and what they are worth, then you are stuffed for getting your money back if it gets lost,

I’ve ordered a few bits from china to the UK recently and no such customs hold ups on our side with total delivery time in 4-5 days.
Most of those companies will likely be doing pre clearance including paying the vat up front, and either importing in bulk to a uk distribution centre or registered with customs so they know about it. Items sent by individuals always tend to be slower.I’ve also found this interesting. I’ve noticed the same.
