I hardly use this Facebook thing. But thought I would have 10 minutes on it and search for some people.

what have they done to the search?

before you used to be able to type in someones name and then at the bottom, hit more searches. Now nothing. you get about 6-8 matches and that is it.

Confused

are you searching or just posting your search key words?

I am searching. at the top where it says "search for people, places and things" you type in for arguments sake 'john smith' it then gives you 8 results. At the bottom it says "see more results for john smith"

you click that and it goes to a "all results" page with nothing on it at all. Just some "people you may know"

Why they have done this, I have no idea.

Press "Find Friends".
It's at the top-right next to your name.

It lets you filter by hometown, mutual friends etc and it adds more results the further down you scroll.

Edit: wait a second. That doesn't work.

It isn't doing that for me, so I think you're either doing something wrong, or it's bugging out for you.

Just triple-checked, there's no apparent way to search for people by name, the bar at the top just picks from public profiles in USA and pressing more results brings you loads of people you might know - but not with the name you just entered.

On the topic of facebook, do they use some nifty gelocation algorithms? As when I go and look at pages in the "friends" bit it always put people living near me. I haven't told them my location and it's always putting people who live literally down my street right at the top.

I always did wonder about this back in the days when I did have an FB account. If someone changes their surname from maiden to married name and you don't know what it is, are you stuffed?

Do you use mobile Facebook?
Because it gets your location from your phone's GPS (unless you disable it).

Search works for me, can see unlimited searches by scrolling down, and by clicking on all, it allows me to search by town, city etc. Has changed though.

Yes, but on the screen where you can search by town etc it disregards the name you typed in earlier which I think is what OP was after.

Same for me, I noticed this yesterday.

No matter what name I put into the search bar it will come up with a list of people who I may know, who are always the same. Clicking on 'see all' results in the filters but you can't search by a person's name just the stupid filter for people you may know.

Who ever broke this is an idiot!
