I'm often reading about people unable to run some of todays games that well even though they have amazing PCs. Now are the creators of games just being stupied creating games that can't run on these setups never mind on the average gamers PC or is it the gamer?

I've been thinking about this as I see some people going insane with the res stupidly high and I think are these people a bit daft trying to play games over 1600 X and so on.

Why would anyone need to set game res over 1200+ X rex

F.E.A.R. dosn't have the option to go up to a res like 1280X1024 but on the max res it gives you it looks pefect. Watching the the videos of the making and so on on F.E.A.R. was intresting when they were talking about reflective water and lights in combat areas was intresting and they explayed how three soldiers on screen end up being like 12 becauses of the shadows and relections and so on.

Yes it does.

what he said.

you just set it yourself in the config file. Or anyother res you want. I think its the makers of games as they make games for all hardware instead of one type of hardware e.g. Xbox 360. Current high end graphics cards (7800,7900,x1800,x1900) would destroy the graphics processing power of the 360, but cannot and probably will not until a game is release that is created for specific hardware.

If we could get every one to buy the same graphics card and processor and not buy another one then games would be 100 times better i think

I watched the Movie Doom the other night and then watched the Special features which had interviews with the developers of Doom III.. I was quite surprised when they said the game was made so it couldn't be played maxed on current machines and they looked forward to 5/10 years down the line when you could finally max everything out...

Now what is the point in that.. 5/10 years down the line people aren't going to be interested in Doom III they'll be wanting Doom X :)

meh.. i have yet to see the point in having a res over 1024x768

i used to think this but then started using 1280x1024. look nicer.

i still play mohaa in 1024x768 though because when you change to 1280x1024 it slows the mouse down and im used to playing with a certain speed so i can get 50 kills and 3 deaths :)

This and the first post in this thread are very likely to be the strangest comments I'll see in here today

Do you not think that people with a decent graphics card/monitor would want to play a game at a higher res? What's the point in limiting yourself and making a game look less attractive by not bumping up the resolution. The only reason not too for me would be that my graphics card was a limiting factor or the graphics in a game didn't look any better at higher resolutions, which is never the case.

I have a 21" crt and run at 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 in games. I'd be running at even higher resolutions if I had a better graphics card that could sustain a decent enough frame rate in the games I play. I'm also sure there's many people here with better graphics cards and monitors than me that want the best possible look to a game and so would be at higher resolutions than me. Surely it all adds to the realism, look/feel, as does AA and AF etc.

thats like saying 640x480 and 320x240 look no different to 1024x768.

set in 320x240 for that 'classic' look :p

I used to always play my games at 800x600. :D The only time I rasie my res past 1024x768 is if there is details I'm missing out like on peoples armour and so on or if likes been said in mmorpgs to make gaming and chatting and messing in my invent at the sametime easier.

I play my games at 1280X1024, because I have a 17" TFT and my system can handle it easily (2.5Ghz A64 + X1800XT)

I play COD and CODUO @ 4x AA and 8x AF also, only reason to play at 1024X768 is :

a) you dont have a good system
b) you only have a 15" TFT
c) if the game doesnt support higher than 1024x768

I always play at 1600x1200, you don't need anything more than 2x AA at that res and too me it looks far better. Couldn't possibly go back to 1024x768.

I have option to run at 1600x1200 in game in F.E.A.R... I've never had to change a config file...

edit: A lot of people do play at lower res when playing online to get every "edge" they can. Some of the setups you see at lan events would make your eyes bleed with the levels of gamma and low res! :)

Not totally true I still play Q3:A most days and it was release around 8yrs ago I think and there are still plenty of people playing it. There are many other games in the same situation to UT, HL, Q2 etc.

Although most games will be true of your statement :p
