stupid games or stupid players

I play my games at 1280X1024, because I have a 17" TFT and my system can handle it easily (2.5Ghz A64 + X1800XT)

I play COD and CODUO @ 4x AA and 8x AF also, only reason to play at 1024X768 is :

a) you dont have a good system
b) you only have a 15" TFT
c) if the game doesnt support higher than 1024x768

Or if, like a lot of people, you have a 17" CRT.

Stupid players...

I constantly hear my friends whining about not being able to get <insert game here> working on their PC, and blaming it on the developer. I go to their house and inspect their PC:

- Ancient graphics card drivers
- Old version of DirectX

*Sigh*

I'm often reading about people unable to run some of todays games that well even though they have amazing PCs. Now are the creators of games just being stupied creating games that can't run on these setups never mind on the average gamers PC or is it the gamer?

I've been thinking about this as I see some people going insane with the res stupidly high and I think are these people a bit daft trying to play games over 1600 X and so on.

Why would anyone need to set game res over 1200+ X rex

It's not a question of need per se, more of a question of choice. Now i've been playing games my whole life and 3D rendered games since i had my voodoo2. I've gone from 640x480 on 15" CRT through to 1920x1200 on a 23" LCD(numerous increases inbetween) and believe me it's a world of difference.

The increase in detail and immersion factor make games far more enjoyable I find. I always get put off by jagged edges when i see other peoples setups! :p

Now what is the point in that.. 5/10 years down the line people aren't going to be interested in Doom III they'll be wanting Doom X

They will, or ID hopes they will. People were still making Quake3 engine games about 5 years after Q3A. And The Doom engine will probably be the same, so far we have had Quake4 and we have future games coming out like Prey and Quakewars that also use it.

ID make engines, they like their engine to last about 5 years before having to make a new one.
