I feel so embarassed for asking this, but thought I would before I spend several hours looking in the loft for what I need....

In my living room I have a LinkSys Cable Router (will call this the "proper" one), with a long network cable running to the otherside of the room connected to a PC.

Also over the other side of the room is another PC which is connected via a wireless connection.

Is it possible to take that network lead at the other side of the room and plug it into my "old" Linksys (non-wireless) router, so that then both PCs can connect to the "old" router, which is then connected to the "proper" router to the net.

I know that both routers will have to have unique IPs and that the DCHP functions will have to give out a different range of IPs, but will the 2 PC over the other side have to be configured to use the "old" router, even if I manually specify IPs addresses and the gateway and DNS being that of the "proper"

Also as an alternative I may even have a 10/100 hub in the loft, I take it I could just plus this in at the other side of the room and then conenct both PCs to it.

Cheers

Use the hub otherwise you will have to setup the proper linksys to forward all stuff to the old linksys via the WAN port.

It's not difficult it's just less hassle.

You could connect the long cable to the old Linksys, then connect both PCs to it - as long as it has enough switch ports and you disable DHCP on one of the routers. You wouldn't use the WAN interface at all.
You're just using it as a switch, which will be far and away a better option than a hub (if it is a hub - there weren't many 100Mbps hubs that weren't from Cisco).
