Best way to get it back? I have other drives to restore to. Was quite a lot of data and really I would like it back :/

Well I was meant to create a partition for linux swap but it deleted the entire disk. I can get the disk to appear in windows but I can't mount it without windows wanting to format it first.
I have that recuva but it won't work unless the disk is mounted which means formatting it :s

You can format the disk with a quick format only, it doesn't actually do much formatting in the ways of overwriting blocks. Try it first with an usb drive if you like, dump files on there, delete them, do a quick format and use recuva to get them back. I've acutally managed to recover 80% of the files from a disk that firstly got the partition wiped, then had a new partition setup, quick formatted (because i'm lazy!) and then a fresh OS installed on top. The lost files were the blocks that got overwritten with new data.

Cheers fellas I am doing that now Gammawolf and it is currently scanning the drive, fingers crossed! Such a pleb. What happens when you are playing Fifa 12 on xbox and not paying full attention.

It finished after like 2 hours and it seems to have found was a load of jpgs and not much else, have I missed something in a setting or is that or it is likely to find? I had a lot of videos and stuff on there.
