Stuttering in Cs 1.6 with core 2 system?

Ok guys after upgrading to the spec in my sig, i fired up cs 1.6 and whilst my fps is deadlocked at a impressive 99 (doesn't even budge to 98) i get big stutters almost like lag spikes every so 20seconds ish! (my ping is very good and around 10-13 all the time as i'm on 8meg bb).

Could it be the nvidia drivers i installed (i have the 91.52 driver)?

*note i get stutters with everything at stock aswell as overclocked so that rules that out.

any ideas folks?

urm i don't think this is a problem in 1.6 tbh! and if it was then wouldn't my fps be affected? i got the same fps with my old amd setup of [email protected] and 2x256mb pc2700 twinmos! so somethings wrong somewhere, i think it could be video card drivers, but i'l try and set the affinity if a different driver set doesn't work!

*on a side note if i set the affinity to one core will i have to keep doing this everytime i start steam or does it remember that i have allocated 1 core to it?

maybe i didn't explain myself properly! it's cs 1.6 not source, my old amd system got the exact same fps as this system but the ram was only 2x256mb twinmos pc2700 and i got no stuttering with it either (this is conciderably poorer than my current 2x512mb geil!).

you do not need 2gig of ram to play cs 1.6 without stutters lol

*as a measure i was at a lan centre on their comps and these wer acheiving 99fps almost all the time and their spec where - old intel 3ghz prescotts / 512mb ram / nvidia fx5200 so if this can get 99fps and no stutters i'm pretty sure my conroe spec should be able to!

as above no, not yet! i will try later when i am home from work, this wasn't a problem when i had a x2 but maybe there is something in the intel dualcore tec? but as i asked earlier does doing this mean i have to keep setting it to one core each time i start steam?

ty for backing me up there rapier, as i know 1.6 does NOT need 2gb of ram to run without stutters lol! i think it's probably due to gfx drivers, i'l install a set that i know worked perfect on my amd system! failing that i'l try setting the affinity.

i know clown, most people here know that you do not need 2gb of ram to play cs1.6 lets leave it at that ;) and try and get back to the reason why my cs is skipping :(

*note i have installed the intel dualcore registry edit!

yeah i used 91.47's on my amd rig and they were fine so going to switch back to them! can't roll back drivers as i have just formatted so the 91.52's were the only drivers to be installed :( will try later in this order :
1) change to 91.47 drivers
2) set to affinity to 1 core
3) change the boot.ini (a quick google and this applies to intel aswell as amd)

*note my cpu definately isn't throttling down as i checked this when my comp is idle and cpu-z reports the correct cpu speed all the time!

for reference what would i disable in bios just incase it is?

Thats speedstep not throttling down. Throttling down is where your CPU is getting too hot so it slows itself down to lower the heat output. Im not sure you can stop the CPU from throttling as you'd need it to really... Speedstep is turned off automatically on Asus boards!

my temps are fine, the problem is happening at stock clocks aswell as overclocked!

i get no choke or loss and ping as stated is between 10-12!

just reverted back to the 91.47 drivers and i now get it very rarely like once every 3rounds where as before i was getting it 3-4times a round! i will try the new 92 series drivers see if these make a difference.

ok update, the 92.91's give out the same amount of skipping as i originally had, but the 91.47's are proving ok with lesser skipping! will try the boot.ini edit and setting the affinity!

further update, i've set affinity to one core and still get the skipping! so i'm starting to get really fed up now! and wishing i had my amd setup back lol

i have the stock sound card drivers that came with my fatal1ty but the strange thing is that even without my sound card installed and just using the onboard i get the skipping too? net_graph3 shows i get some choke and loss but it's random most of the time it's at 0 then suddenly it will jump up to 30

*and yes i have tried setting to one core and this didn't work.

really starting to get annoyed with this, and seriously thinking about jacking in conroe and going back to amd x2!

i'm using the built in wireless that came with the p5b deluxe version! i'l try un-installing this and using my old pci network card to see if this makes a difference? but with the built in wireless i always get excellent signal strength.

i haven't tried it when creating my own server i'l try that later and let you know!

ok started a local server and got no skipping, so i'm guessing it's something to do with my net, i'l try un-installing the asus adapter and just using my old pci network adapter?
