Sub £100 5.1 Setup with Optical In?

I'm rather perplexed as to why Raymond Lin is suggesting £500 systems when it's clear you don't have that sort of budget or the requirements that such a system would satisfy. Even the lowest-end Oknyo receivers have plenty of connectivity on the back and settings to play with.

I am not suggesting a £500 system, i am saying for what he needs, he will need near £500 to make it possible. Remember, he also needs speakers, I am not saying he spend £500 on the receiver alone.

I bought a Samsung HT D4500 5.1 system for £100 recently, it was new but with a small dent and damaged box. You can get some good deals on refurbed Samsung HT systems on ebay, the sound quality is suprisingly good.

Note: The last 2 panasonic plasma's I've owned dont pass 5.1 through to the optical out, nor through the ARC on HDMI2, from what i've read, 99% of TVs dont.

But he doesn't need £500 at all. He can get an Onkyo kit (with speakers) for £220 or so, which will be more than suitable for his needs.

The fact that he was initially looking at £99 budget systems would suggest that a £500 one isn't really necessary just yet.

Ok, i wasn't aware of the Onkyo comes with speakers, my bad.

Yeah the Onkyo S3405 is a complete set. Amp, speakers and cabling. It's pretty much spot on, assuming the amp in this set allows for setting audio delay? Anyone know?

I picked up an Onkyo 2.1 HTX22HD second hand for £130 (X version can be had for £20 more). COmbine that with the remaining 3 speaker package (£80 new, not seen second hand) and you have a 5.1 system for around £200. It does have the audio delay function.

I'd save and go 2nd hand, i got an onkyo 606, pair of mordaunt short 902's and a 905 for £165 all from avforums, a real bargain and much better sound and system then the cheap all in ones.

All that new was around £800, I took my time and got mint condition stuff that I was very happy with.

Hunt around.
