Hi all,

I’m currently gaming at 4k with a 4070 Ti which remains silent though my 9900k is running hot meaning the case fans and AIO fans ramp up so looking for a efficient cool running CPU.. I’m not really into overclocking cpu with these modern processors as the benefit isn’t there.. the 13400 looks to be a good CPU that runs cool and power draw isn’t that bad. I’ve got a H150i elite capellix which may seem overkill but wanting temps to remain as low as possible whilst gaming. 7600x looks to be another shout with better opportunities to upgrade in the future and can be had for £219.

AM5 CPUs don't use much power (7800X3D is very low when gaming), but I wouldn't consider them very cool running.

The 13400 is a decent CPU power/heat wise, but it performs more like a 12th gen CPU, so not sure it would be the kind of upgrade you're looking for, from a 9900K.

AMD would be my choice for the future ability to upgrade to the latest cpu. You are looking at £120+ for a 32Gb kit of DDR5 6000 and £180-200 for a decent B650 motherboard on top of the cpu. Going Intel means that you could reuse your DDR4 and £160-200 for s decent DDR4 motherboard but the 1700 platform is on it's last legs with the only new cpu's coming for it will be the 14*** series refresh.

Thanks all! Think I’m going to give AMD a chance due to future proof of the platform.. I want a new case as well to replace my 10 year old h440 which the fans are too noisy also

There's not much between the 7600X and the 7600. I went with the cheaper option with the plan to drop in a 7800X3D or 8800X3D sometime in the future.

I can get the 7600x for £1.99 more currently from a retailer with the same name as a spicy dish.. :D £219 for a 7600x seems like a good price?

The title reads sub £200 upgrade but it seems you are going to be replacing platforms, too. Since you are coming from an 8core processor l wouldn't buy a six-core processor for a new gaming system. An eight-core like the 7700x would be a better choice.

As a stopgap the 7600 is fine. I find mine comparable to my 5800X3D. I'll sell it later and buy a much cheaper, relative to launch, X3D chip.

I woudn't even bother upgrading it, the gains won't be noticeable.
I'd say it depends. After another GPU upgrade or so or playing certain titles the minimums especially can really benefit. The raw FPS figures don't always tell the full story. That said don't do it until you have good reason to, i.e. you can perceive a negative with your current set up.

You'll end up with a significantly cooler system just by getting a new case. I had the H440 and even my 4670k ran hot in it.

Get something high airflow/mesh with some good performance fans, such as BeQuiet Silent Wings. You'll end up with a system which is quieter and cooler.

I agree, anything for £200 isn't going to be enough of an upgrade over a 9900k at least at 4k, the £200 would have been better spent going to a 7900XTX instead of a 4070ti imo.

Thanks all for your input appreciate it! I’ve had a few good recommendations for cases so will take a look there first as when my cpu gets to 70 degrees my current fans ramp up so loud it’s doing my head in and can’t figure out another way to stop it. Plus the case is getting on now anyway missing brackets etc
