Sub not working

Hello,
I have just bought my first 5.1 setup, it is a q aquostics 2000 cinema package paired with a sony str-dh820.
When I run the auto calibration it emits sound through all the speaker fine but does nothing when it gets to the sub. The sub is powered on and has not gone into standby, but it is connected via a 10m lead (could this be the problem?)
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Do you have another cable you can try?

Also check it's in the right connection on the amp, I once made the mistake of plugging it into an input while stretching behind the amp :D

Is there any options on the amp to tell it what size speakers are plugged into it? Sometimes if the stereo speakers are set to large the amp will assume they can produce enough bass and not use the sub.

Also, is there more than one connector on the back of the sub? Some have high level and low level inputs.

Thanks for the quick replies, it was a faulty cable!
I've since run into another problem though, basically my tv was previously hooked straight up to the pc and the picture quality was fine. But since adding the av reciever into the equation (PC-AV-TV) the picture is not as good, blacks appear to be very washed out, and in general the colours just don't seem right. I had a similar problem when i first set the pc up with the tv and it turned out you had to use HDMI input 2 for pc connections. I have messed around with changing the HDMI (from AV) to different ports in the tv but to no joy. So to put it simply, would it be possible to have it in this sequence PC-TV-AV whilst maintaining DVD-AV-TV and XBOX-AV-TV. Sorry for the confusing post, but I hope you can help.
