Whats the best location to have a sub woofer.

I read years ago the best place was on the floor.

Mine is on the floor - but on a carpet.

But the carpet would absorb some of the sound from it

A bit of carpet won't make any difference, it's not high frequency sound. Best place depends on shape of your room, and placement of sub within the room.

There are so many different types of subwoofer on the market, that the only place for it is where it sounds best....on the floor is a good starting point though lol

depending on if the ports are rear/forward/side facing will decide weather it goes close to a wall, for example, a rear ported sub can sound muffled and boomy if its butted right up against a wall, some subs (and speakers for that matter) sound better with a bit of space.

Just experiment, youl be suprised at how you can influence the sound by moving the speakers a bit.
after all, what sounds best to you is always the best solution.

best place for my first sub in my bedroom i found was mounted against the ceailing, central to the two side walls.

people say bass isnt directional, you can put a sub anywhere blah blah blah....... bullplop. it is directional and even if you cant hear where its coming from, you can certainly here what corner of the room a sub is pointing at and 'loading up'. placement of a subwoofer is critical and i still believe the absolute best place for a sub is right in the middle of the two front speakers.

You can put a sub anywhere and its classed as non direction, go read on the geeks sites.

There is a sub you get that bolts to under a chair and under you floor on the wooden supports, it turned the room into 1 big sub and shacks you when you game lol.

You've got two different types of sub?hmmm not ideal...also car drivers have different charasterics, not suitable for home use.

no they are the same. as i said behind the front red sub is another one the same...

also car drivers have different charasterics, not suitable for home use.

i think u need to research more mate..

it depends on the amp... car subs do work perfectly for home use if u have the right amp... ive had no problems with mine.

that has a flat response down to 27hz, and managed 110db at 20hz. all for ~£170 including the amplifier. perfectly suitable for home use lol. get the right driver and it doesnt matter what use its intended for, it's all down to those thiele-smalls.

*and that wasnt measured at @ 1 meter either, that was measured in the listening position at the other end of the room:)

lol i have to re design the port actually, i made the port too narrow and as a result the air travelling through the port moves at such a speed that you hear some tremendous port noise at sub bass frequencies. that and its blowing my curtain about in the living room :p

lightening audio sub there james?

ive a pioneer accelerate 10" off a jbl 75.2 powered by a regulated dc power supply. how are you powering the sub?

oh, and a yamaha amp! tasty

yeah ive had the LA driver for probably 6 years now. never skipped a beat and still performs amazingly well for a £120 driver.

no messing aroudn with car amps and inverters, just 2x100w RMS of clean power froma denon pma-100m. £35 down the local cash convertors no less!

the yamaha is gone now, i replaced that with a an onkyo tx-sr805 :)

well my 2 12inch red subs are 500W RMS each ;). and the gray box sub is 450W... i have 3 amps powering each sub, and a 450W av 5.1 amp to power the other speakers.
