sub woofer location

rms is nothing. get an spl meter out;) but if it makes you feel better, my onkyo is a fair bit more powerful that whatever it is your using;)

also im curious, what are you using to power those subwoofers?

edit: actually that looks supiciously like a prosound pav615 that you can buy from that electronics shop i cnt mention for about £50. am i close? its trash by the way:p its about 16w rms a channel if i do remember

gareth170- is that 450W per channel AV amp? No I don't think so. What is the power into 4ohm at what % THD?
James, if you want to play watts game my HT is 5x 2 channel poweramps - 6x125W, and 4x75, totalling 1KW into 8ohms, plus sub amp 500W into 4Ohm. Front three are biamped. :-)

not me playing wattage games. how much power do you need when you're already listening at reference level? the only thing power wise id want to change right now is my sub. build a better, stiffer box. 400w rms plate amp and it'll be complete. when i can be bothered, change the driver....too bad adire went out of buisness. a tumult or something as equally ridiculous would have been fun to play with lol.

its never wise to start with the 'ive got more watts than you'. this isnt pc speakers we're talking about here:p

I do,though :-) Proper seperate poweramps.
Mate has Rotel RB-993 and RB-991 (200W P.C. THX 3 & 2 channel poweramps) more power than mine- but not as refined.

For the sides, quite a bit as lowish sensivity @87db. Can never have enough reserve power :-)

did i say 450W per channel?? NO... don't try to get smart with me..... u have total 1wk good for u...

i have over 1kw but so what, im not here to try to beat everybody else...

good for you lol. have a cookie:p no seriously it sounds like a great setup

but im not bragging about power! i thought i was doing the opposite sitting here with a 200w rms sub that can crack 115db @30Hz. power is nothing without control. who said that? power is nothing without some great speakers being driven by it, either:p

gareth could you answer my questions mate? im just interested

gareth170, just because your sub drivers have a maximum power handling of 500W doesn't mean your amps are capable of outputting that. A low end "500W" av amp could really just be 5x45W, in real terms. Low end Yamaha's are well known to be well under rated. It's the same trick used for PC speakers, ie 1000W PMPO subwoofer for £25. And when using 4Ohm speakers the amp will strart to struggle. My front speakers are 4Ohm, so require quality poweramps able drive those loads.

and managed 110db at 20hz

Was that outside, or indoors? Do you have % of THD at that output?

that was measured in room in the listening position as i mentioned:) no i dont have the distortion measuements. its not the most refined down that low lol. not with the port noise anyway, but this is hardly the thread to be questioning me over this lol

Ideally then you need to work out what your room gain is, otherwise those specs aren't suitable to compare against others. I believe you can get upto 20dB of room gain down low?

Or measure outside, in open space.

20db sounds about right:) that goes back to what i was saying though, sub placement is crucial. put it in the right place, and you can get away with things you wouldnt otherwise be able to:) for example, with the sub down in the lounge (oh yes those measurements were in my bedroom lol) the response at 20db is much much lower. due to space restrictions, there's very little i can do about that. its quite a shame actually, because everytime else sounds so much better down here. just goes to show you how large a part the room plays in everything:)

nope wrong :D..

front channel 200w total, rear channel 150w total, center and sub channel 100w total. but i don't use the sub channel

nope wrong :D..

i know im not wrong. those values arent rms. am i right on the amp then?

over view:
5 Channel AV Amplifier

• High power surround sound amplifier with front (L&R), surround (L&R) and centre speaker outputs
• Ideal for use with surround sound speaker sets
• 5.1 inputs plus three stereo inputs (CD, Tuner, Tape, etc.)
• Remote controlled
• Built-in digital sound processor (DSP) with 5 pre-set EQs: Live, Hall, Rock, 3D, Surround Sound
• Built-in karaoke with echo and vocal cancel functions

Ideal for use with fully decoded 5.1 outputs (e.g. Dolby or DTS) as found on many DVD players. There are 6 phono (RCA) sockets to receive the separate channels (front left & right, surround left & right, centre and subwoofer). This AV amplifier has 5 amplifiers built in - one for each channel. The main front (stereo) speaker outputs are a huge 45Wrms per channel. The two rear surround speaker outputs are 7Wrms per channel and the centre speaker channel is 8Wrms. The subwoofer signal is passed through for use with an additional (optional) active subwoofer.
There are three additional stereo phono inputs for CD players, cassette players, etc. making this the heart of your home entertainment system. It is supplied complete with a remote control allowing you to select the source, adjust the volume, apply the various EQ settings, etc.
This amplifier also features two microphone inputs on the front panel with a built-in echo unit and a clever vocal-cancelling option, allowing you to remove most of the main vocal from your favourite track so you can add your own!

no...

its a prosound...

it even says rms ion the back

those specs i posted are straight from the website lol. its 7.5kg and £50 for a reason lol

im not sure whats worse. the fact that the surround are a breath taking 7w rms per channel or that the center and surround channels arent even full bandwdth. or that its measured at 0.5% distortion. i just cant choose lol

i know the one your thinking about but it isn't that one mate.

There are ways of getting around RMS. One driven driven only, for example. Ie rated as 100W X5, but only 100W when 1 channel is drive, otherwise 45Wx5. If those specs are correct, your amp is pretty lousy. And with a low SNR, THD is in clipping range. Overall poor @8W for side/centre, I hope your speakers have incredibly high sensivity.

so tell me what model it is then. its (looks) exactly the same lol
sorry my mistake :o i was thinking of my other av amp that is prosound. the name is fidek the model is on the back which i can't get to at the moment because my girlfriend isn't here...

looks and being are two total different things...

and anyway i don't put your system down by saying oh thats trash. u haven't heard my system so u have no idea if its crap or not...
