Ill go as far to say it's not the worst questionable business practice but it is questionable considering its just a sneaky way to keep people paying for something they no longer want, you can argue the fault lies with the customer for not wanting to jump through hoops to cancel or forgetting to or any number of reasons but i can assure you most would agree if it's easy to sign up theres no reasonable excuse to make it any less easy to cancel and we all know the reasons why are selfish.

Ok, looking from the businesses perspective - if there is a service you no longer want, you cancel it and typically you've agreed to the terms of cancellation when you signed up in the first place. The business will want to (rightly so) take this opportunity to qualify the cancellation - why are they cancelling, can we negotiate a better deal, different package etc - this is not possible by offering a 'click to cancel' option.

Not that i agree with that but it can still all be easily done online with or without some sort of online chat support, if it's easy to sign up then it should be easy to cancel, pretty simple.

British Gas were pain for cancelling. I used one of those changeover web sites where you can choose to go with another utility company. On there, I opted to go with Scottish Power. All was fine for a bit, bills were a quarter less than what I was paying British Gas. Before long, their sales department started phoning me, giving me 'incentives' like £75 if I was to go back to them. They kept ringing me every day without fail from October 2010 which I started ignoring by mid-October, until around Easter time, then they finally got the message. Then 2 weeks ago, they sent me an email requesting a meter reading.. O.o

On the contrary, getting rid of AOL was a lot easier than I thought!! I visited their web site, help section and cancelled through there. Just needed old credentials, a few clicks and drop-down box with reason why I left AOL. Done.

Orange are pretty good for going onto a cheaper plan too. In fact, you can re-spec your animal (the tariff) every 6 months and there's a wizard on the site for it.

I don't know whether they still do it, but LoveFilm used to let you cancel online only when their call centre was closed. Seriously, at 9pm the form would tell you to phone them to cancel. At 10pm a 'cancel your subscription' button appears. Absolute madness.

As well as making it generally a bit harder to cancel, insisting that you phone also gives them an opporunity to try and persuade you to stay if they want to. Ocassionally you'll get a better deal than you could otherwise.

Interesting reading the Lovefilm hate...

So far I'm fine with them, though I have had a damaged Blu-Ray that had about 15 minutes unplayable an hour into the movie (cleaned it and stuck it in the PC and that couldn't read the section either). One thing I've noticed though is there seems to be quite a bit of stuff they don't have to rent, but will gladly link you to buy from Amazon (derp, I'm renting instead of buying). Caprica and BSG: The Plan were two I tried to add yesterday and found unavailable.

They use to be great. But they have just stopped advancing ipand in other areas have gone backwards. A corrupt disc use to be very rare, now can almost guarantee at least 1of the 3 discs will be corrupt.

Microsoft are terrible for this, have to phone up to cancel xbox live subscription or just to turn off auto renewal. It should be illegal. The same methods used to subscribe should be available to cancel.

Xbox: sign up in 2 clicks (on auto renewal!). To cancel call a number, confirm gamertag, confirm postcode, confirm card number to cancel.

Lol :p

I had an experience where my dad cancelled his card, and they tried to Auto Renewal my XBL membership.

Kept asking for payments after 3 months and then suspended my account.

Was pretty funny, 3 months free XBL :p

So you don't agree that when you signed up you agreed to the cancellation terms?
